I was recently asked to introduce a group of teenagers to what Life Coaching is about and after my first session was given feedback from some straight talking young people that my talk and chalk approach was boring. So I went away and revised my presentation. I eventually came up with the theme of coaching helping you to have your future in the palm of your hand and each digit represented a power point of coaching. I suggested that coaching can be summed up in the ten P's which are turned into power questions.
(The Power of Questions)
1. How much do I want it? (PASSION)
2. How can I achieve it? (PURPOSE)
3. Can I do it? (POTENTIAL)
4. Am I committed enough to put the plans into action? (PERFORMANCE)
5. Do I have a written plan? (PLANNING)
6. Who can help me? (PEOPLE POWER)
7. What order should I do things in? (PRIORITIZE)
8. How am I doing so far?(PROGRESS)
9. I achieved do I feel great?(PEAK)
10. Did it give me peace of mind? (PEACE)
I then turned the whole session into an interactive bridge building team excercise which produced some excellent feedback. I used the analogy that coaching builds a bridge between where you are now and where you would like to be.So as a coach I was coached by Kids and thanked them for their honesty.
