What are some signs that you may be in a toxic relationship?

You'll be able to tell because of the impact being in a toxic relationship does to you. You're probably not aware of it but your body is. It will affect you emotionally, physically and psychologically. What happens is you change everything about yourself to please her. In the end, you're someone totally different from who you used to be.

One clue to a toxic relationship is when your significant other puts you down in front of others often. She'll say or do negative things towards you. She might say that she loves you but what she does say otherwise. Your partner will try and make you dependent on them. She'll try to make it clear that she's the only one you can ever get.

The next sign to look out for is if she is a control freak. She'll be going through your mail and looking through your phone. She'll be checking your call and text history. If she is showing up in places just to check up on you and question your every action and move, there is a pretty good chance you have been stuck in an unhealthy relationship.

So why would a person stay in a relationship that is unhealthy for them?

There's a cycle to this type of relationship. First you have the honeymoon period, then the blow up, and then the reconciliation. This sequence then starts at the beginning again. You end up being stuck in this vicious cycle. Chances are you'll stick around in this kind of a relationship if you suffer from self image issues.

Especially if you grew up in such a household. The majority of the time, you wouldn't notice that you're in one. It's normal for them. Sometimes you may believe you do not deserve happiness or you just enjoy taking care of other people. Being there for your partner and doing whatever she may want fulfills that part in you. Maybe you simply just don't know any better. You grew up in such an environment, so what's not so normal about it?

So how can you get out of a toxic relationship?

Simply realizing that you have choices and you deserve happiness will help you start the process of pulling yourself away from a toxic relationship. Up next, you have to take a stand. Your partner may have put it in your head that it is all your fault. Once you are convinced, you may find it difficult to walk away. You must now set new limits so that your relationship may begin to heal.

Your relationship can still be saved with a bit of work. If both you and your partner are willing to make an effort, you can still renew your bonds towards a healthier relationship. Your relationship might require counseling or help from an outside source. Sometimes you may find it best to simply walk away. Be strong and make sure your partner understands that you are willing to walk away if things don't change. You must take matters into your own hands and believe you deserve a better relationship.
