While we might think of fun as something for kids, it's also fundamental for adults. Fun is great for its own sake, for generating happy hormones and for helping heal earlier hurts.
Fun & laughter are also excellent for boosting motivation, raising determination & improving health for today and the future. So, it's time to get serious about fun!
DOES YOUR LIFE SPARKLE LIKE SUNLIGHT ON THE WAVES, OR ARE YOU PLUMBING THE DEPTHS?
Get a pen and paper and note down how many times you say "I don't know" or "No" to these questions:
* When was the last time you did something just for fun?
* Do you sit down & relax before finishing the To Do list?
* When did you last take a holiday/vacation/day trip?
* Do you have time every week for your hobbies or interests?
* When did you last laugh? (Excepting comedy films, tv, or similar)
* Do you see your friends as often as you'd like to?
* When did you last treat yourself "just because"?
* Do you give yourself a reward when you do something difficult or new, no matter what the outcome?
* When did you last compliment yourself?
* Do you feel there's enough fun in your life?
* When did you last have a day at the beach?
* Do you know when you're next taking a vacation/holiday/day trip?
* When did you last do something silly?
* What was your most recent spontaneous action?
* Have you done anything fun or creative with the photos or souvenirs from your last vacation/holiday/trip?
1-5 DON'T KNOW/NO ANSWERS
That's excellent. You know how to have fun and make sure it's a regular part of your life. You're probably reading this while on your way to the beach and could in fact teach me a thing or two about fun.
6-10 DON'T KNOW/NO ANSWERS
You're getting there, that's great. You definitely make an effort to have fun, it's just that sometimes commitments pile-up, and get in your way. What are one or two things in your life that you could reduce or remove, allowing more time for fun? And what will you do with the new-found free time?
11-15 DON'T KNOW/NO ANSWERS
Well done for being willing to look at what's going on in your life, I really admire you for that. Go get your calendar, diary or phone right now, and enter one fun thing you want to do, on the day you want to do it. And on earlier dates, enter anything you need to do to make it happen, like "get a babysitter", or "buy train tickets".
If you start feeling even the tiniest bit guilty, or you get tempted to cancel nearer the time so that you can do more To Do stuff, remember that if you don't get some fun soon, you won't be so effective at the To Do things... so by having some fun, you're also staying on top of things.
WANT TO KNOW HOW I SCORED?
It's only fair that if I'm asking you to look at your life, I do the same. I got 6 Don't Know/No answers. And I've decided to watch less films & TV and do more crafting & sewing.

About the Author
The sea & the beach, fish, & marine conservation, inspire and motivate virtually everything I do.
My life coaching has helped people to:
* enjoy free-time & family-time despite busy lives;
* be more confident;
* know their priorities and live by them;
* deal with stressful life events;
* earn money doing what they love;
* bring the sea into their lives;
* uncover what’s been holding them back & stop doing it;
* get more customers;
* and more.
I help people all over the world, and currently live in north-west England.
The sea is in all aspects of my life:
* from my coaching work (I help people who love the sea to get the lives & businesses they want);
* through my spare time (I scuba dive & volunteer);
* and into my home (I’m sewing, crafting & up-cycling to give my home a beach hut look).
How I give backr
I practise tithing, i.e., giving 10% of my pre-tax income: by donating to marine conservation charities/non-profits; and with selected pro-bono coaching.
Environment, sustainability & ethicsr
I listen to customer feedback, and offer a guarantee on all my coaching.
My business & personal carbon footprint is kept low by using renewable energy; turning-off appliances at the wall socket; having insulated premises; travelling by bicycle and public transport; being vegetarian; buying recycled/secondhand/sustainable equipment, supplies & furniture; and by reducing my use of plastics.
When I’m off-dutyr
Scuba diving and crafting are two of my favourite activities.
