Being able to be in the moment is one of life’s simplest treasures. It can make the craziness of the world stop so you can just sit and take a breather.

Take one minute after reading this paragraph to look away from the computer. Close your eyes and just be in the moment. Listen to your surroundings and don’t let anything come into your mind. If something creeps in, don’t cringe or beat yourself up over it, just tell yourself that you will take care of it later and then release it. Do this for as long as you wish and then slowly re-open your eyes.

What Happens When the Past Haunts Your
The present is perfect. It's perfect because nothing at that very moment should hurt you emotionally, physically, or spiritually. At least, it's not supposed to, as long as you don't have the past seeping in overshadowing your tranquility.

Letting Go for Peace of Mindr
The exercise above asked you to release any thoughts that came into your mind. Were you able to do this or was it impossible? Did you become frustrated because the past kept creeping in?

Holding on to the past keeps you from living in the present because your mind is unable to focus solely on the moment. It's stuck on an emotion because of a traumatic event.

What causes a stuck emotion? Misunderstanding. You don't understand the event. You don't accept it and your emotion is the reaction to it.

Just understanding why you have the emotion can give you relief. Looking for more clues into the event or the message your emotions are trying to tell you can also help you experience freedom from the past.

Your Subconscious and Personal Growthr
What's keeping you from freely living in the present is your subconscious trying to help you solve a problem you are dealing with. Your subconscious knows that you need to learn from the past at some point and the longer you push it away the longer you'll have to deal with the baggage.

Facing your emotions, understanding why you have them, or the message, and accepting them is a way to move forward.

It's a way to say, “Look, where I am right here right now. I have dealt with my past effectively and it’s made me stronger as an individual. I have learned more about myself, others and life. I am at peace."
