Maintaining a Correct Frame of Mind

Let me clarify exactly what I mean when I talk about a correct frame of mind. When I say correct frame of mind I am referring to whatever frame of mind that it takes to help you get through a bad situation. A correct frame of mind has to be positive. I have heard of stories of people who were lost in the wilde ess. There are several accounts that I have read where those involved made up in their minds that they would not die. There was even one account where the lost gentleman repeated over and over to himself that he would not die. In this case he survived and he attributes his survival to the fact that he refused to give in to the situation. I would like to talk about applying this survival mechanism to our everyday life and the various situations that we find ourselves in from time to time. The way that you fare in life is directly the result of the way that you deal with day to day circumstances. Your reaction creates a sort of self fulfilling prophecy. When you focus on the negative the negative will grow and consume more of your life but when you decide to focus on the positive the positive will become the controlling factor in your circumstances. We must maintain a positive outlook in tough situations. A negative outlook won’t help you, and it certainly won’t do anything to help a bad situation. A bad situation won’t change until you take action to make it better. In order to take action you must first energize your mind. A positive mind makes positive moves. Positive moves will eventually bring positive results. The first thing that you must do is to speak positive thoughts. These spoken words will motivate you to do better. Look for something good in the situation that you happen to be in. One positive way to look at a bad situation is to consider it to be a challenge. Remember that there is no bad situation which doesn’t have a way out. Look for the solution. You can’t focus on finding and implementing the correct solution if you allow your mind to be overwhelmed by the circumstances. You must force yourself to deal with the situation rather than just allowing yourself to be overwhelmed by it. Maintain the mindset that you are superior to all challenges and find a way to win. Professional boxers are very adept at doing this. Muhammed Ali was a master of maintaining control of his mindset in adverse situations and so was Evander Hollyfield. Mike Tyson was a master of intimidation. He actually had a weak chin which is why he needed to knock his opponents out early. He would make them so fearful that they would be afraid to fight which immediately placed him in the role of predator. Once his opponent accepted the role of being the terrified hunted prey it was only a matter of time until the fight was over. You can beat the daylights out of your life’s problems if you have this same attitude. Many winners are winners because they view life as a game. Analyze the situation and make the right move. I once heard Sugar Ray Leonard tell to a commentator after a particularly hard fight that even though he was totally exhausted at the end he would have found the extra gas that he needed from somewhere. Know that bad situations and circumstances are only temporary. They will only last as long as you allow them to. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be sad. The ball is in your court.
