Many different cultures consider the kitchen the heart of the home. In feng shui, the kitchen is considered the area of the home that sustains life and nourishes the family, as well as being a symbol of wealth. Because the inhabitants of the home depend on food to give them energy, it is especially important that this food be prepared in an area that has a good balance of Chi. It is also believed that any positive energy that exists in the kitchen will naturally be transferred to those working in the kitchen, which in turn will pass this energy on to those who eat the food.
Colorsr
To create harmonious energy in the kitchen, concentrate on colors that blend well together and are cheerful, such as yellow. It is also important to have proper lighting in the kitchen, as well as good ventilation. Whenever possible, a window should always be open in the kitchen to increase the flow of fresh air and energy. Another way of increasing the light in a kitchen is to add a mirror, which will help visually increase the size of the kitchen.
Remove the Clutter
Small kitchens can create a particular challenge when trying to incorporate good feng shui design. It can be difficult to avoid the feeling of being cramped and crowded, both of which are seen as blocking the flow of good energy. One method of dealing with this in a small kitchen is to keep the countertop area as open and uncluttered as possible. Stick with simple kitchen supplies whenever possible, and do not have too many gadgets, even in the drawers. If you have too many things in the kitchen, it is always going to seem cluttered, and it will be difficult to put everything away properly. In feng shui, clutter that is out of sight is considered to be just as detrimental as clutter in full view. Too many details and too much clutter will also make it difficult to keep the kitchen clean. If you have too many items in your kitchen, remove any items from your kitchen that you need only infrequently and store them neatly somewhere else. Strive for a spacious and airy feeling in the kitchen, even if space is limited.
Shelvingr
Open shelving is often more effective than closed cabinets to enhance feng shui techniques in a small kitchen. The openness of the shelves can create a better flow in the kitchen and give the appearance of more open space, but only if you keep the shelves free from clutter. Go for a neat and streamlined appearance. If you do have cabinets in your kitchen, paint them in a light shade, such as white, cream or a pale yellow. Remember that it is as important to keep the hidden interior areas of your cabinets as clean and clutter-free as the open shelves.
Fresh Flowersr
Bring beauty and life into the kitchen by displaying an arrangement of colorful fresh flowers. However, you should check the flowers every day, carefully removing any blooms that have wilted or died and replace them with fresh blooms.
