Muscle Test Your Way to Conscious Eating
Written by Lana Nelson
With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, stress is likely to be at an all-time high. Traffic, spending, eating and nerves are at an all time high, causing us to eat mindlessly.
This is the time of year there is a lot of stress eating. The very eating that sabotages your goals around a healthy lifestyle.
Due to the pressures many people are experiencing, they go into “automatic” on the very behaviors it would be beneficial to be more aware of.
Take Time to Pay Attention
For me, this is the time of year I pay more attention to that little voice in my head that says, “Just one won’t hurt.”
“One” being the very foods I know are not the best foods for me to eat. Sure, one usually doesn’t hurt most of us, yet, one can trigger two, three, four and beyond.
I’m a proponent of letting my subconscious mind direct me on the best foods for my individual needs, regardless of the time of year. And yet, this IS the time of year to be more aware than usual.
With family gatherings, office parties, "get togethers" with friends and all the tasty samples at the local supermarkets, it’s important to notice when you let your guard down.
It’s not that you should be on pins and needles, but a simple awareness can work wonders. This is what I love about muscle testing for me and for my clients; a simple awareness goes a long way.
What is Muscle Testing
Muscle testing (also known as applied kinesiology) is a practice that is used to tap into the subconscious mind in order to answer questions about physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Imagine tapping into your subconscious mind to discover what foods are good for you and which you should avoid. Is this possible? Absolutely. In my blog post Your Subconscious Can Guide Your Eating, I go into quite a bit of detail.

I’ve appeared on quite a few podcast shows discussing muscle testing. One show I had a great time on was The Soul Frequency Show with Shanna Lee.

A lot of research has revealed just how powerful our subconscious mind is. Yet, to really tap into the power of our subconscious we must take time to slow down. And during the holiday season, many people forget to do so.
It’s much easier to slow down than many people realize. The first step is recognizing the need to do so. Without the acknowledgement that you must slow down a bit, you likely won’t.
Steps to Healthier, Conscious Eating During Stressful Timesr
Simply put, conscious eating is about being mindful. The more mindful you are, the more you will enjoy the holidays and not be filled with regret over the choices you make.
1.Set your environment up for success. Be sure to have plenty of healthy foods available during those times you “grab” for something to ease the desire eat based on emotions. The more variety the better.
2.Eat before you shop. Many studies show just how effective shopping on a full stomach is. If you are hungry, in a rush and feeling stressed, what goes into your basket will likely not be the best choices for you to honor what your body really needs. You will be putting in “filler” foods that are meant to fill an empty feeling rather than be nutritionally filling.
3.Write a list ahead of time and muscle test the foods you put on the list. Yes, you can muscle test as you write your list. Your subconscious mind is incredibly powerful and intuitively knows the foods that are best for you.
4.And as simple as it seems, think through your choices. Ask yourself how you will feel if you eat foods that don’t serve your highest good. Then imagine how you will feel when you eat to honor your body, energy and life. Sometime this is all it takes to fill your basket with food that are perfect for your body at this time.
5.Use muscle testing for the foods you select for family members. As with muscle testing your grocery list, you can muscle test for others. This is not often a practice people use when shopping but one that will reap such healthy benefits for you and your loved ones.
Why not make this a healthy holiday season? By following the steps above, you can. And your body will thank you in so many ways by giving your more energy, balanced moods, less stress and most of all clarity of mind, body and soul.
