Picnic perfect; it’s that time of year when the red and white checkered tablecloths flow into sight, the ants begin populating around their mounds and the weather starts to allow for an outing under a shady tree, on the beach or even in your own backyard. Is it time for a picnic with the people you love? Of course it is! When is it ever a wrong time for a picnic as we enter the summer haven?

Taking time out of your busy schedule to enjoy the fresh air, the sounds of the world in which you live and the opportunity to enjoy some yummy delights with your favorite people is what it’s all about. Can’t you just taste the juicy watermelon, the sweet lemonade and hear the crunch of the French bread? Grabbing your picnic basket, loading it up with goodies and retreating to your favorite spot for a little rest and relaxation sounds like a dream come true. Can’t you just smell the freshness of the air and hear the birds chirping as you find yourself in a world that has slowed down just enough for you to smell the roses? Makes you want to pack up right now, doesn’t it?

Planning a picnic doesn’t have to be time consuming. Arranging an outing with family and friends doesn’t need to cost oodles of money or require major organization. Gees, you could literally throw food into a grocery bag, grab a blanket and hit the front porch and call it a picnic. It still puts a smile on your face and gives you the warm fuzzies. There are endless healthy options to choose from when filling your picnic basket. Why not consider some of the following items to bring on your venture.

Pre-made sandwiches, packaged safely and kept cool depending on the fillings.
Single serving fruits-apples, bananas, peaches, pears.
A cooler with lots of water, iced tea or lemonade.
Low-fat cheese and whole wheat crackers.
Double cut pizza with half the cheese and double the veggies.
Cut up vegetables with hummus or a low-fat dip stored appropriately.

You can create your own delicious dinner to-go in no time. Be sure to bring a blanket to sit on, a garbage bag to leave your retreat as you found it, some bug spray, sunscreen, wet wipes for sticky hands, a Frisbee, jump ropes and a camera to capture the happy times to be had by all
