It truly isn’t surprising that nowadays it is extremely difficult to keep our portion sizes under control. If you are like most people living your life and dealing with the hustle and bustle the best that you can, who has time to stop and be aware of how much food you are eating and what is an appropriate amount per serving?
In today’s world of fast cars, yesterday’s news and convenient foods everywhere you look it isn’t surprising that we tend to go with the flow and barely blink as we are served a dish or prepare it ourselves. What has happened over the decades is that our society has become less physical for the most part and instead of acclimating our food portions to match our sedentary slow down, we’ve continued to eat just as much, if not more and the entire notion of “correct” portion size has gone by the way side.
Being aware of what is an appropriate amount of food/serving takes you being aware of your options and taking the time to analyze, monitor and adjust what we have grown to know as appropriate and re-design our plate with a logical amount of food. Why not try some of these portion control tactics and begin to cut down on the amount of food you consume on a daily basis.
~Use smaller plates and bowls at home and ask for them when dining out. ~When dining at home take the time to measure/weigh out your portion sizes, so that you become more aware of the suggested serving sizes. ~Ask for a to-go box when ordering your meal and box up half of your entrée when it arrives. ~Prepackage your snacks in mini-baggies for appropriate serving allotments. ~Order the kids’ sizes on the menu; they are always smaller amounts.
It takes time and energy to stop and think about what you are doing and how much food should be gracing your plate. The ball is in your court and for you to make a difference in your life you have to begin to create change, do something different or life will continue on as it has. Step up to the plate and take the steps that will behoove your goals.
