Power Through Weakness

We all have, at one time or another, been so tired we felt like we just couldn’t go on. We have had days where we knew we would fall right asleep once our head hit the pillow. We have worked on some things so hard that we were so tired we couldn’t think straight until we found some time to rest. When we are weary, when we are weak, that is when we have to be strong.
Matthew 11:28 “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”
It is when we are weary we are most vulnerable. We may do or say things we don’t normally do or say. We are likely to agree to something we normally wouldn’t agree to. When we were children, we knew if we wore down our parents about something we really wanted to do, they would give in. They would allow us to do things we knew we probably shouldn’t do when they were too tired to say no.
However, when we are weak, we still need to be powerful. We still need to make good decisions. We still need to hang on. We can be at our best in our weak times through obedience to God. God can give us power and strength through our weaknesses when we obey Him.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Having a foundation of God’s word built in us will help us through those weak times. God’s power actually works better when we are weak and willing to give it all to Him. Obedience brings strength and power. God will give us the power and strength we need at the time we need it. When we feel we can’t go another step, all we have to do is turn to Him.
We should be careful to live in obedience to God in all that we do. Sure, we will slip sometimes because we are human; however, we need to get right back in line with God’s word and get back on track. There are many stories in the Bible where men and women were powerful due to their obedience in God. We can’t rely on any other power from any other source.
2 Chronicles 27:6 “King Jotham became powerful because he was careful to live in obedience to the Lord his God.”
When we are weary, we do need rest. We can find both strength and rest through obedience to God. When can go to Him knowing He will take care of whatever it is we need to do. When we are weak, we are strong when we have God working through us. When we are weak, we will have rest because Jesus will carry our burdens. When we are weary and weak, we can still make a difference because God will work through us to make that difference if we allow Him to do so.
It’s hard to think that power and weakness can become one; however, we need to remember through God all things are possible. When we are weak, we still have God. When we feel helpless and vulnerable, we still have God. We just have to remember to turn to Him in our weakest moments and obey Him. We have to have a relationship with Him in the good times and bad so we know that our obedience to Him will keep us strong at all times so He can make a difference through us even when we are weak.
Isaiah 40:20 “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
