Each of us in our own ways are faced on a daily basis with events that cause our hearts to race, adrenalin to flow giving rise to the “flight or fight” response of stress. While a little stress is healthy too much can cause illness, affect our immune systems and if left unattended to for long periods it can cause more serious illness such as heart disease, digestive problems to name just a few.
I am a firm believe
that if stress is managed properly we are on our way to a more peaceful and happy life so I’ve put together some practical tips which can help to manage your levels of stress
Take time out for yourself each day
Spend at least 30 minutes a day doing an activity that you enjoy such as reading a fictional novel or have a bubble bath. Try to make sure it’s at a time when you won’t be disturbed ie when the kids are gone to bed.
Think back to when you were a child, what did you love then? Maybe you can re-kindle a hobby or past-time from your childhood. Mine was colouring in ï
Exerciser
As well as being a great way to keep you fit and healthy Aerobic exercise like running helps the body to create feel good hormones called Endorphins. These bring about a sense of wellbeing, boost your mood and a give feeling of euphoria or “runners high”. And as an added benefit it’s a great way for helping to manage depression, improve sleep patterns and strengthen your heart.
Meditationr
Calming your mind for even 5 minutes a day can work wonders. Find a quiet place in your home or in nature (ensure your safety), light some candles & play some soft music. Sit in a comfortable position, take some deep breaths and allow your thoughts to settle. Meditation takes practice, so don’t be disheartened if your mind is constantly chattering away! The trick is to let the thoughts float away without hanging onto them. There are also Guided Meditations which I find to be a great way for beginning to meditate. There are some good ones on Youtube.
Watch funny moviesr
There’s nothing like a good laugh to help make you feel better!
Go down to your local movie rental shop and rent out some good funny movies and let the laughs roll!
Jump in the puddlesr
All the way back to your childhood, have a jump around in the puddles and your ma can’t give out!
Massager
Look up your local Massage Therapist and book yourself in for a nice relaxing massage.
Massage has many benefits for both body and mind such as reduced stress levels, improved circulation and improved mood to name just a few.
Managing your stress levels is as important as food or exercise so make time in your day to do some of these activities and you are sure to notice an improvement in your overall wellbeing.
