Telemedicine: is a broader term applicable to physicians most predominantly but can apply to other practitioners as well. It involves the use of medical information exchanged from one place to another via electronic means, and telecommunications to optimize a patient’s health status, to support clinical care, to diagnose and care for medical conditions . . . intended to increase access to care and optimize health outcomes by overcoming geographical barriers.
Telehealth: is the use of electronic communications to promote wellness, disease prevention and diagnosis, consultations, nutrition intervention/plan of care, counseling/behavioral change/coaching,
Obesity management.
Telenutrition: The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics defines Telenutrition as “the interactive use by an RDN of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to implement the Nutrition Care Process with individuals at another location and following state laws”.
Definition of Nutrition Informatics: the effective storage, retrieval, organization and best use of information, data and knowledge for food and nutrition related problem solving and decision making (Academy Nutrition and Dietetics Practice Tips, May 2013).
