There is no achievement without motivation, nor is there any success without being motivated. Quite simply, if you want a fulfilling life in which you achieve your goals and ambitions, then you will require a constant input of self motivation. Whether you want to be head of a giant corporation, a car mechanic in your own workshop, or a famous pop singer, the need to be driven from within is just as important.

Here are some personal tips about self motivation, taken from my own experiences:

1. The acceptance of your own ignorance is the beginning of acquiring knowledge. Recognize that, and remind yourself regularly. Use that little bit of knowledge to drive you to learn something new each day. Those who believe they know as much as they need to will be left in your wake as you continually progress. Let that motivate you as you spend some time every working day improving yourself through learning, whether it is a new technique you can use at work, to improve your health, or in understanding why people are the way they are.

2. Those who truly succeed are different from those who do not. Accept that you need to be different from others, and then enjoy the fact that you are different, and can do things others cannot, will not risk, or are afraid of trying. As others get dragged down and restrained by their negative peers, and fear of being different, you will be free to make progress in your life.

3. Always be a traveler, and be prepared to travel alone. If you are still young, then being courageous about going to other countries, and experiencing other cultures, will benefit you for the rest of your life. This will add to your knowledge, add to your wisdom, and be an inspiration to you. Refreshed on your return, such travels will feed your motivation, and you will always be open to new ideas and inputs, leaving you less prone to become sucked into a debilitating rut by your own society.

4. Be prepared to set yourself high but achievable targets, to reach your ambitions and establish the lifestyle you desire. At times it will be necessary to make sacrifices, such as lessening your social activities at times of intense learning and practice, but do so knowing that the results will benefit you forever.

5. Any sort of failure can be a de-motivator. Sometimes, such failures or setbacks can be turned into a great motivation to make progress. Always look at setbacks as a possible opportunity, but as with all opportunities, only select the best. Often it is best to ignore opportunities as they will not improve your life; select only those you are sure will improve your life.

6. Take a detached view of what you are achieving. If plans are just not working out, be prepared to drop them altogether, rather than to be continually de-motivated by swimming against a strong tide. There is nothing wrong with failure in any venture. Learn from it and move on, to rekindle your motivation.

A common theme going through the above motivation tips is adaptability and flexibility. Life is not straight line. All successful people have found a way through or out of setbacks. Keep motivated, and you will too. They also tend to spot when they have struck lucky and then focus on making the most out of that situation. Make the ability to focus one of your priority skills to learn, and you will soon be making your mark in whatever way it is you desire.
