Something We Dread

We all have things that we really don't want to do or things that we are just not looking forward to. Rather than dreading them and thinking about how we can get out of them, we need to look at the bigger picture of how we can use them as opportunities to serve God and others. Missing out on something because we don't think we are going to be happy about doing it is no excuse for not doing it.
Whether it is a project at work, a family matter or just going to run some errands, dreading and trying to get out of it is only keeping you from focusing on what the real plan is. We all have responsibilities and are accountable for what we do and don't do. If God lays something on our heart to do, we should move forward with it in faith knowing that He has the best in mind for us and others.
God can use what we are dreading to do to open doors for us to be a witness for Him. He can use what we are dreading to do as a way to show us our purpose in life to serve Him and others. God wants us to stand up and take responsibility when something needs to be handled in our lives. He doesn't want our excuses or for us to wait for when it is convenient for us to do, it wants us to get it done.
Deuteronomy 31:6 "So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you."
When we dread something, we tend to put it off. Dread means to be apprehensive or fearful. As Christians, we should not want to put anything off that God puts in our lives to do. Nor should be we afraid of doing something that is God's will. To be apprehensive or fearful is to disobey God because we are not putting our faith in Him. We need to really think and pray about what we put off so that God can guide us through it.
If we don't do what we are supposed to do, how will that affect other people? Are they counting on us? Do they need us to finish what it is we are supposed to be doing? We don't always know the bigger picture. We don't always know what is going on in someone else's life. We don't always know what the whole situation is. We only know that we need to do our part. We need to take the opportunity to do what we are called to do.
When we look at something as an opportunity to serve rather than a chore or a bother, God can open our eyes to see as He does. He will show us what we can do in that situation to have a cheerful attitude. He will show us how we can use that time to help someone and to learn something new. He can give us His strength to be an example to someone as He works through us.
Looking at something we dread as an opportunity to serve will help us to find ways to better enjoy what we are doing. Writing down the outcome of the situation and what benefits will be gained by us and others will help us to look at the end and feel the feeling we will have once it is accomplished. Going in to it with the attitude that it is going to be a learning experience will help us to have a story to share with others one day.
We need to take time today to decide to do what we have been putting off. We need to look at what are opportunities are in certain situations that we may be dreading. We need to go to God and ask Him for His guidance in these things. He has a plan for us. It is not our decision to make. He has already planned what we need to do. It is our job to do it and have faith in Him to lead us through it.
