SUPEREGO AND DIVERSITY
Sigmund Freud discovered the superego as a psychological structure juxtaposed to the ego, but at the same time
faced this. The father of psychoanalysis died in 1939. It's been 70 years. At this point
there are who ask: "About the superego ... what is fantasy and what is reality ...?"
The superego certainly exists and we can reach it using our
capacity of introversion.
1-THE SELF
With few exceptions, all have clear awareness of what is the ego, ie, just
what we call in our everyday language when we say: "I think, I am ..."
2-THE SUPEREGO
It is formed in us but others are building. The rules of the father and of the
authority figures are internalized in us and form an internal structure that is in the Self area,
but it is not the self, because it acts outside ourselves, beyond our control.
When we feel guilt (superego), it makes without us (ego).
It is something our that we can not control.
Pangs of conscience are a punishment of the superego against the ego for breaking its rules.
For the Catholic Church is this individual conscience and not something different that will determine
if you commit a sin or not. The fact is no sin but the individual conscience
to sin. And so it is that if one believes that greatest sin is not dishonesty, though the person do physically,
he will have his conscience clear. He will may be punished by men but not by God.
3-THE TOLERANT SUPEREGO
There are people who find difficult to understand the theory of the superego. They hear about itrnand try to find it within themselves but can not find ... These are people who internalizedrna superego tolerant, permissive, leaving them to do, which does not complicate life with
prohibitions or scruples of conscience. This superego rarely appears.
These people are not be stopped by his conscience and can afford many things that
those with a severe superego could not do.
On the other hand these happy people accuse in their lives in many ways, the absence ofrnan entity that provides criteria for good or bad, aplomb and personal independence.
4-THE SEVERE SUPEREGO
If those who forged our superego were very hard or uncompromising, in this case, we ourselves
- our superego - is also too hard or intransigent.
In this way we will come to a cautious and insecure person and, in the worst case,
obsessive or anxious. The self soft walk guided by the superego, but if it is severe,
the self will walk ballast and the person will lose spontaneity.
In severe cases, we will speak, using psychoanalytic terminology, about castrating Superego.
Castrating, because it castrates the growth, the expansion and the happiness of the individual, of the ego.
In severe cases the castrating superego interferes with the person's psychic equilibrium, the punishments
may be such that the person will seek refuge out of the reality or supporting
obsessive terrible problems, accompanied by strong anxiety attack.
5-THE TYRANT SUPEREGO
The severe superego is like a tyrant:
---- may enter into consciousness at any time and in any manner, disproportionately.
---- may submit neutral episodes of the past as if they were negative.
---- may try to instill shame of neutral events.
---- may punishment arbitrarily.
---- may punishment severely for minor offenses.
---- may lead to self to real existential crisis and to unbalance the person.
6-THE CHANGING SUPEREGO
Sometimes the superego is severe, sometimes forgiving, but sometimes fails to be
changing. The changing superego changes constantly the meaning of its message.
If parental messages were type:
"The good thing today, tomorrow it is not. Now I value you, then forget you. With this I am honest, but
with that, dishonest. I promise if you do this, I'll give you that, but when you do it reallyr
I do not know ... "
The changing messages generate a changing superego, without criterion. The changing superego hardly
manages to guide the criterion and conscience of the person. The person, before this failure of
criteria within himself , looks out himself, in society, the behavior guidelines.
These people will not have their own criteria and will borrow from
a modern society full of traps, twisted interests and lies ... If you want
know the opinion of these people do not have to ask to them, just know
what is the prevailing opinion ...
7-REBELLIONS
I am my ego and I am my superego, but really I identify with my ego.
My superego and its punishment can be viewed as intruders into my consciousness when
the superego is severe or castrating. The superego severe, unreasonable, disproportionate, castrating,
can produce the rejection by the person against its excesses, against the father, the society and its
introjected rules.
This rejection leads to rebellion against authority in real life, against systems
based on punishment, against corrupt and hypocritical society ...
