You might be relieved to know that one of the benefits of massage therapy is an improved night of sleep. Stress, tension, living in the 'flight or fight' state thru high levels of cortisol keeps the body on hyper alert therefore when its time to go to sleep-even if we are so exhausted-we find ourselves often staring at the ceiling and no amount of sheep will lead us to a good night's sleep.
According to the Association of Massage Therapists receiving a one hour massage is the same as getting a full night's sleep of eight hours. It's exciting to see that Massage therapy has never been as popular as it is today in America. And with good cause; massage increases circulation, helps lower stress. Studies have shown that stress is a huge contributing factor in many health issues such as migraines, TMJ, fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue just to name a few.
Cortisol, the stress hormone destroys the body's "natural bug killer cells" and Massage reduces the levels of cortisol in the body, This gives your body its first line of defense against common colds. It actually boosts our immune system.
When you are unable to get a restful uninterrupted night's sleep it effects all aspects of your life. Massage therapy has helped countless people cope with the stress of modern life. It could help you, too. Sweet Dreams!
