The Eyes: What You Really Need To Know Before It Is Too Late!
Written by Dr. David Orman
They are the gateway to the soul and one of our most precious gifts – the eyes. Many people assume that there is a pattern of excellent vision in youth, reduction in middle age and poor vision in the winter years. Such need not be the case. Much can be done to improve and to maintain a high level of vision.
Question: How many miles of blood vessels are there in the human body?
1. 7 miles
2. 70 miles
3. 7000 miles
4. 70,000 miles
If you answered #4, you win the prize! Some of the 70,000 miles of blood vessels help to feed the eyes so to speak. Nutrition is provided via these blood vessels, some no thicker than a strand of hair. You can well imagine how just a little speck of plaque can obstruct the blood flow in some of these tiny vessels that feed the eyes. This leads to key number
1: keep the vessels as healthy as possible. This can be accomplished in a number of ways:
a. Healthy nutrition. Most people are already aware of this basic principle. It is simply a matter of commitment to them. Increasing fruits and vegetables while reducing the amount of sugars and starches forms the foundation of a healthy diet.
b. Consider therapies such as Chelation. Chelation (pronounced key-lay-shun) is an intravenous infusion of an amino acid known as EDTA. EDTA essentially removes metals and helps to reduce the amount of plaque that forms around the blood vessels, thus improving circulation. The most effective form is intravenous.
Of all of the oral chelators, the only one I have found effective with patients is Serrapeptase. The positive effects of IV chelation can be noted in as little as 2-3 months while oral typically takes 8-12 months. In addition to improving circulation, be sure that your liver is healthy. There is a strong correlation between the health of the liver and the eyes in natural medicine. The liver governs the eyes and symptoms such as “floaters,” reduced vision, red or dry eyes and the like can often be traced to the liver.
I will cover the liver in detail in a future post but for now, the herb that is ideal for this is called Bupleurum. One section of the brain is called the cerebellum. When this area is weak due to overwork, overworry or high stress, the eyes (and sometimes hearing) can be adversely affected.
A or Ribonucleaic Acid is the treatment of choice.
A is nutrition specifically for this section of the brain and can greatly improve vision as well as memory.
The herbal treatment of choice for all facets of the eyes is called Fructus Lycii. Lycii is a fruit which resembles reddish raisins and is used to nourish the eyes and the blood. Secondary effects include relieving dryness of the lungs and strengthens the kidneys. Lycii also protects the liver and can help reduce blood pressure.
Lycii can be found in virtually every herb store and is one of the most useful and popular of all time. If problems exist with the eyes, this is the herb to consider first. It should also be noted that traditionally, Lycii was/is used for”psychological vision.”
“I cannot see things clearly anymore. . . “
“Things are just a little cloudy now. . . “
“I can’t see options.”
These are common blocks in “psychological vision.” Lycii is known to help individuals provide a “different view or perspective” on problems or current situations. That’s all for this issue! Remember to forward this to others who can benefit from the content.
