If you want to build confidence and improve your self esteem there are some fairly simple steps you could take today to begin the process. It’s true. In the time you would normally spend worrying about your self-image and cursing your limitations you could be well on your way to a better you.
Three Steps to Build Confidence and Improve Self-esteem
While there are many reputable courses and manuals on how to build confidence, most will begin by simply pointing out (for a fee) variations of what you will read here. That being said, these three steps offer a perfect, and cost effective, place to start your journey of self appreciation.
Step One: Reflect and Congratulate
Most businesses and organisations realise the importance of reflecting on a month, or year, gone by as a tool for evaluating progress and celebrating accomplishment. Yet, sadly, few people take the time to do the same in their personal lives. The act of reflecting on your past accomplishments should be a staple in your daily routine rather than a luxury. Celebrate your accomplishments and congratulate yourself on a job well done. You’ll be surprised to see how far you have come.
Step Two: Decide and Initiate Action
How many times have you uttered phrases such as “I really want to go back to school,” or “I’d love to buy a new house this year,” just to watch those dreams lose momentum and dissolve into your busy and hectic schedule? It’s okay if you are guilty of this—all of us are at some point in our lives—but it doesn’t have to be that way. Imagine if Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds Restaurant, would have let his dream of business ownership die with the words, “I’d love to start a restaurant business someday.” None of us would have ever tasted a Big Mac!
Once you make a decision about a direction for your life, it is vitally important for your confidence that you take the first step—however small—towards achieving it.
Step Three: Follow through
Once you’ve taken the first step towards your goal, create a plan for seeing it through to the end and follow it. Keep your promises to yourself and the feeling of accomplishment you’ll receive will be well worth the effort.
If you want to build confidence that lasts, you need to take these first crucial steps, but try not to get frustrated if it doesn’t come ove
ight. Keep moving forward and take one step at a time, and your reward will be an overall sense of pride, confidence and most importantly, well-being.
