Change often comes whether you want it, pursue it, or ask for it. Major events can seem like pivotal moments in your growth and development. It’s natural to feel some disillusionment and wonder, ‘Where do I go from here?’ Change can simply be defined as a difference between two things. A transition or shift, as a result of change, can be a time period of exploration where you set yourself up for the next chapter of your life. What has been your experience with the transitions in your life up until now? Have you avoided them or embraced them with open arms?
Transition coaching helps people to make a shift in way that is most productive, supportive, and meaningful for them. What if your transition was a transformation instead of forced action? Accepting your current circumstances and looking for the positive aspects, can be helpful for your peace of mind. How could you make the most of your life, career, and relationships by accepting your transition and transforming? We are going to consider the top 3 types of transitions and how you can make the most of them!
1. Life Events – Life happens, events happen, and loss happens. You can be thrust into a transition by something unforeseen that occurs in your life. The death of a loved one can cause emotional pain; the loss of a relationship can lead to thoughts and feelings of abandonment or isolation. Accepting life’s ebbs and flows can be the first step in navigating through change. Embrace past experiences and take the lessons you can apply to the future. Learning from situations primes you to make different choices in the future.
2. Career Change – Have you quit or been laid off from a job? The business world is constantly changing and progressing. Skills that were once in demand can become obsolete with technology. Some companies may not see or appreciate your strengths, ignore your contribution, and hire from the outside instead of promoting from within. When transitioning careers its vital that you stay positive! Think about all of the skills, projects, and tasks you’ve completed. How can you use those to spruce up your resume and make you stand out? Keeping an open mind can help you discover something new, and better!
3. Relocation – Moving is one of the most dreaded events. There is all of the energy put into packing, shipping, and unpacking along with the uncertainty of someplace new. What are your thoughts about the unknown? Relocation is a transition that you most often chose. If you are brave enough to make the choice to move, kudos to you! You already see the value in going for what you want and mixing things up. Planning can help you save a lot of time, energy, and money. Do you have a team to help you pack, clean, and unpack? Examining the details can enable you to have a feeling of some control despite walking into the unknown. Enjoy the journey!
Now that you are aware of the 3 most common transitions, take some time to reflect on how those have shown up in your life. Transition coaching can help if you would like support and accountability towards reaching your goals. You don’t have to feel like you are going through your transition alone. Talking to a friend, family member, or coach can help get things off of your chest. Make a choice to transform by accepting and embracing yourself!
