Have you ever been in a situation where the people around you didn't seem to recognize your genuis? You've worked really hard to develop your skills and abilities or the services or products you offer but people don't seem to get it. Situations like thes can be deeply demoralizing but they offer an opportunity to be your own best supporter and move forward confidently.
One of the most challenging lessons when you're doing meaningful work is that not everyone will like, understand or respond positively to what you're doing. This can feel like a personal slight because you're exposing your true self to the world and trying to live an authentic life by sharing things that are very important to you. It's not easy to keep smiling when everyone around you is frowning when you tell them about what you do but here are ten practical ways to move past those who don't "get" you.
1. You might feel vulnerable but remember that you're really very courageous to follow your genius. Not everyone has the will and strength to follow their dreams.
2. People aren't trying to hurt you on purpose and, if they are, find others who support you. Focus your energy on the people who see value in what you do rather than those who don't.
3. The only opinion that matters about what you're doing is yours. You decide what's important to you and how you want to live your life.
4. People who aren't using their genius may unknowingly try to bring you down. It's the misery loves company proposition where people try to bring you down to their level because they're unfulfilled.
5. You decide how you react to what others say and do. You get to choose whether other people's actions affect negatively or make you stronger.
6. Try not to force people to like you or chase those who have rejected you. Keep living your life authentically and like-minded people will present themselves.
7. Many, many people will never be ready for what you offer. You will never get through to some people but that gives you the opportunity to find the ones who want to work with you.
8. Find the people who value your genius. These are the individuals who will support you during your journey and you'll be there to do the same for them.
9. Take small steps to use your genius every day. Don't give up your dreams, you're worth the effort.
10. Remember that your genius is yours no mater what happens. You're a great person the way you are and your gifts are what make you unique and distinct.
Living a life based on your genius can be challenging because it's not always easy. You'll constantly be reminded of the areas you need to strengthen and you'll have to deal with setbacks you didn't know existed. The wonderful thing about being yourself and using your innate talents and abilities is that you get to live life at its richest and fulfill your true purpose.
Nothing anyone says or does can change the fact that you're an amazing person who is following his or her own path. Keep moving forward and know that there are people out there right now eager to connect with you. Keep perservering and you'll eventually find them. What will you do to share your genius with the world?
