Yes, Even You Carry Around Toxins
Written by Dr. Elena Klimenko
If you think environmental toxins are reserved only for communities like Hinkley, Califo
ia from the movie “Erin Borokovich,” think again. We are living in a toxic world, where environmental toxins are found in everything from the air we breathe to the couches we sit on. The number of EPA approved commercial chemicals used today range somewhere between 75,000 to 100,000. These chemicals are sprayed on our food as pesticides, and are used in plastic, glues, dyes, fuels, and more.
Industries and motor vehicles are the primary air pollution sources in our society. Our air is further soiled by smoke, dry cleaners, and gas-bu
ing equipment, just to name a few. More than 250 toxins are found in indoor offices, and your home probably isn’t far behind. Off-gassing from carpets, formaldehyde found in bookshelves, aerosols, smoke from cigarettes and candles, and flame retardants all contribute to the toxins in your world.
Fortunately, the human body detoxifies naturally everyday through the skin, breath, and excretions. Yet, for many of us we need more support with eliminating these toxins from our bodies. The toxic load you are exposed to - and therefore carrying around - is more than the colon, liver, lungs, skin, and kidneys can process. Just as an air filter can only filter so much air before it has to be cleaned, the detoxifying organs have their limits too. When they are given more work than they can handle, your health and emotions suffer the consequences. Air pollution will first manifest itself as irritation of the eyes, nose, and/or throat. If exposed to enough of the irritant, it can develop into respiratory conditions such as emphysema, asthma, lung cancer, and bronchitis. Inhaled toxins can affect more than just the lungs. The organs of the body work together as a team, when one organ is compromised, its teammates aren’t far behind. A body overloaded with toxins can experience a wide range of symptoms from fatigue and irritable emotions to weight gain and foggy thinking. More chronic problems such as allergies, heart disease, and cancer have also been associated with toxic overload.
Once you begin to experience symptoms of toxicity, it is crucial that you minimize the toxic load and cleanse before the symptoms develop into more serious illnesses. One of the primary measures in optimizing your body’s detoxing abilities is through diet. In general, choose organic, whole foods to minimize consumption of chemicals found in processed foods and pesticides. Also consider incorporating a product that opens up the detoxification pathways in the body.
For an easy detox that can be taken daily, Best Breakfast “for your health” is ideal if you are not prepared to make big changes to your diet. Simply add water, shake and enjoy as a snack or meal replacement. Regular use of Best Breakfast will gently help to reduce the environmental toxic load in your liver, kidneys, and GI tract. As a reminder, if you are pregnant, you should not practice any type of detox!
You may not be able to control all the toxins in your world, but you do have a choice as to what you eat. By feeding your body foods that lessen the impact and assist it in eliminating environmental toxins, you can minimize their harmful effects.
