Yoga, Fitness, and Kinesiology Tape
Written by Ryan Lasley
While some only look at yoga for its meditational benefits, the fact remains the impact on the body is significant. Increased stretching and flexibility along with a slight development of muscle tone all contribute to the positive impact yoga training can yield. However, you do need to be free of injuries in order to perform yoga. Minor aches and pains can prove distracting during the performance of a yoga session. Soft tissue injuries could even keep you on the proverbial shelf for an extended period of time. So, what can you do if you are suffering from slight and minor injuries that impede your yoga sessions? You could take advantage of pre-cut kinesiology tapes. The applications of such tape will ensure that your yoga sessions are not interrupted and you can enjoy your sessions without undue stress and or discomfort. How do pre-cut kinesiology tape applications help with yoga and/or pilates sessions? There are a variety of ways these applications help. In general, they are designed to provide support for your joints and muscles. When you have suffered from a minor injury, the use of such tape helps to reduce pain and strain while also allowing for free, unrestricted movement. It is this latter point that is vital. In the past, it was not uncommon for injured practitioners to "wrap themselves up" so as to keep the joints and muscles supported. This is not always the best method to employ. First, it restricts movement tremendously. And secondly, it has the potential to cut off your circulation. Needless to say, you probably would not want to deal with either problem when you are participating in yoga. Maintaining your full range of motion is vital to getting the most benefit out of your yoga classes. Why miss a class when you don't have to? It is fairly easy to use kinesiology tapes for sore muscles and joints. The ease of application makes pre-cut kinesiology accessories preferable to the more cumbersome tapes on the market. They are easier to apply and support the joints in a more reliable manner. It’s an excellent combination for those that prefer more active yoga exercise sessions. And possibly the greatest benefit to using such a tape applications is that they can help you heal your minor injuries. This can be achieved by keeping the aching joints and soft tissue supported so that the body's restorative healing powers can properly take effect. Best of all, you can still take part in your yoga sessions during recovery. How does it work? The tape, made with hypoallergenic acrylic glue, is manufactured to be the same weight, thickness and elasticity as the skin and is therefore able to integrate with the body’s sensory system naturally. There are 3 possible categories of effect which have been identified depending on the method of application and the therapeutic outcome desired. SpiderTech is a line of pre-engineered tape-based therapeutic supports developed to facilitate a functional medicine approach to pain modulation and myofascial dysfunction.
