In July 1997 Fortune Magazine printed some quotes from real life CVs, including ' I have an excellent track record, although I am not a horse' and 'Let's meet so you can 'ooh' and 'aah' over my experience'. Both great sentiments and definitely attention grabbing, but not necessarily going to get you the right response from every potential employer. So, what should you put into your CV and what should you leave out. As we discussed yesterday, not all vacancies are openly advertised and recruited for by the Company in question. Many start their jou ey with a recruiter or headhunter. The age old debate; is it what you know or who you know that is most important. I would say that 100% of the time who you know can and will open more doors for you than what you know. If you are looking to change fields, get that big promotion or sidestep into a new industry knowing the right people is going to take you all the way. One of the key things that you need during the interview process is confidence. Confidence in your abilities, confidence in your fit for the role, confidence that the Company are making a good choice when they interview you for this role. This should not be confused with arrogance which is of course a different thing entirely. CONFIDENCE is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective.

You have been asked to do a presentation. You have plenty of time to prepare. So where do you start, how do you make it interesting and yourself confident enough to pull it off with style? The first thing to give some thought to is the topic (if you have one). The time limit you have been given to present in and the props or tools you are to use. I would then mull it over for at least twenty-four hours and make notes of anything that comes to mind. That will give you the ideas for your outline.
