My name is Darlene Norris, and I'm a 50-something granny who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I've lived in a lot of different places over the years, and I've had a lot of different experiences.
I started out in upstate New York, where I spent the first 21 years of my life. Since then, it's been a wild ride. I've lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, South Dakota, Colorado, and now in Michigan. I spent a few months on the Navajo reservation in Arizona helping at a home for foster children, and I've lived in an Amish community in Tennessee, where I made some good friends among the Plain People.
I've heated my house with a woodstove, and learned how to cook on it, too. I've lived on a small acreage in South Dakota, where we raised most of our own food. While living there, I had dairy goats, sheep, chickens, cats, dogs, calves, geese, and even pigs.
Now I live in town, and I love it! It's great to be able to walk to the library, and the bank. And I get to walk on the beach along the Lake Superior shoreline nearly every day, even in the winter.
I've been interested in natural healing for many years. This probably comes from my childhood. My mom didn't believe in running to the doctor for every little thing. Unless my brother or sister or me were hurt or extremely sick, she usually gave us a few days to see if we would get over it by ourselves. She was a great believe
in the power of the body to heal itself, and she was usually right.
I've been using a variety of herbal and homeopathic remedies for years to successfully treat minor illnesses. I do believe we're blessed to live in a time and place where we can visit a doctor for life-saving treatments. But for minor problems, I like to try safer, less intrusive natural treatments before pulling out the big guns, like antibiotics.
I'm happy to share my knowledge of natural healing on my blogs, Natural Health and Wellness Tips and Cool Cat Care Stuff. Please let me know what topics you'd like to see me write about. I look forward to hearing from my readers!
