Academic Background: Dr. Kevin D. Hufford graduated from the State University of New York where he received his B.S. in Biochemistry (1977), M.A. in Chemistry (1981) and Ph. D. in Advanced Technology / Systems Science (1993). He has taught Chemistry and Computer Science at Broome Community College as well as Computer Science, Network and Internet Programming at Ithaca College. He has also worked in the Robotic Drug Analysis Lab at Norwich Pharmeceutical and in Information Systems at Cornell University.
Overview:Since 1979 he has been studying, training and teaching the martial arts. In 1998 he opened Dragon Fire Martial Arts in Trumansburg, NY which is the Hombu Dojo for RyuHi Toshi Karate-Do. In 2007, after 28 years of study and practice, Dr. Hufford developed the “Eight Animal Spirit Qigong” System and in 2010 upgraded this system with revolutionary theories on the Power of the Mind and released “Mind Power Qigong.” He currently teaches Mind Power Qigong, Health Preservation Qigong, Kung Fu, Karate, Iaido, Batto-Do, Tameshigiri and Kenjutsu. Dr. Hufford also teaches Karate, Kickboxing and Self-defense at Wells College in Aurora, NY.
Healing Certification:Dr. Hufford was certified as a Polarity Therapist in 1981 by the Rochester Polarity Center. In 2003 he was certified as a Qigong Instructor under YMAA’s Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming and in 2007 Dr. Hufford was certified as a Master Instructor in Taji and Qigong by Grand Master Jiang, Jian-ye in the Health Preservation Association. He continues to work with Grand Master Jiang, Jian-Ye in the Health Preservation Association as a Master Instructor in TaiChi and Qigong.
Japanese Martial Arts Certifications:Dr. Hufford is Shodai Soke of RyuHi Toshi Karate-Do. The honor of his 10th Degree Black Belt and Hanshi title, in RyuHi Toshi Karate-Do, was bestowed on September 5th, 2009 by Hanshi Seifuku Nitta who heads the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai Kensei DouKoukai.” Dr. Hufford is Shodai Soke and holds the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt in RyuHi SenshiKen-Ryu as well as 6th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, 4th Degree Black Belt in Kodachi Toho, 1st Degree Black Belt in Toyama-Ryu and 1st Degree Black Belt in Washin-Ryu Karate-Do.
National and International Recognition:Dr. Hufford has accepted Hall of Fame inductions from the World Karate Union Hall of Fame, United States Martial Arts Association International Hall of Fame, Puerto Rico International Jiu-Jitsu Hall of Fame, USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame, AustralAsian Martial Arts Hall of Fame, Cosmopolitan Florida Martial Arts Brotherhood Hall of Fame, Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame, Team Camacho International Karate Champion Awards, the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame and others.
Philosophy:Dr. Hufford loves to write and loves to teach. He follows a philosphy called CHU-DO – “The Way of the Middle” – which simply stated means Everything in moderation and moderation in everything! and believes that Mind Power Qigong is the ultimate way to achieve this philosophy.
