Author, Speaker, Coach, Business Owner, Facilitator

For more than three decades, I have been a Christian business woman, wife, mother, daughter, coach, mentor, counselor and friend. During that time, I’ve accumulated musings, journal notes, life skill solutions and spiritual insights. My computer is overflowing with words of wisdom, humor, joy, awakenings and – sometimes – sadness, hurt and outrage.

I’ve lost both parents and a younger brother. In partnership with my husband of 33 years, we’ve navigated teen years and marital issues. We’ve dealt with aging family members. As a cemetery professional, I help families cope with the effects of death and grief. I am a business owner, community volunteer, event organizer and a group facilitator.

In total, it’s been a rich, fulfilling life, and I’m grateful for all I’ve learned. Now I want to broaden my mentor/coaching services with an on-line presence. I share expertise, insight and life skills tips through my website, www.SeebeckSolutions.com, a resource for inspiration, information, motivation and humor. We choose our own destiny, did you know that? Every decision you make is a step either toward or away from your destiny, your destination in life. Your choices create the causes-and-effects that dictate your life experiences. How can you know if you’re moving in the right direction? Ask yourself if you’re making right decisions. One way to know that is to check your heart. Are you peaceful with your decisions, your choices? Or are you uncomfortable with something, perhaps a bad habit or a negative attitude. Don’t ignore the prompting of your conscience.

When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible. ~ Author Unknown Passion is defined as “powerful emotion” and “boundless enthusiasm”. When you bring emotion and enthusiasm to your lifework, negatives don’t matter. All things become possible. Your commitment to your passion will lead you to Wisdom in pursuing your dream. Have you ever heard of “the passion of Christ”? Do you really understand why they describe his persecution and death as His Passion?

I don’t know why I didn’t know this. Looking back, I can see that it’s one of the most important things I coulda-shoulda-woulda done … if I’d known. Unfortunately, I didn’t really comprehend it for about two decades. We seem to think that a college (or high school) diploma represents the end of learning. After we get that all-important piece of paper, we pack up the books, get a J-O-B, and get on with living our lives. There’s nothing more to learn, after all. Yeah, there might be some specific job-related skills we need to know.

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do. ~ Epictetus We all have dreams: visions of the possible, probable and seemingly impossible. Setting goals is the key to turning your dreams into reality. Goals help you recognize your progress and allow you to celebrate the process. Setting goals is one of the master keys to a successful life. Goal-setting creates results, yet less than 3% of the population will actually adopt the process. Every person is gifted with the ability to dream and to plan, to envision and create the life you desire.

I cut open an apple the other day, and it blessed me. Not just the fruit - which, of course, was very tasty and healthy - but the seeds. Every apple has at least four seeds in it, enough to grow four more trees … and thousands of potential apples. Every bag of apples is an orchard! That’s true of every plant and animal God created. An ear of corn can produce a garden; a bushel can provide a field. Not only does each species have re-creative abilities designed within it; it also contains the power of multiplication – God’s promise of abundance.

Love is, above all, the gift of oneself. ~Jean Anouilh Love. No word in the English language is more used or less understood. • I love you. • I love my car. • I love Mexican food. • I love to sleep late. • I love my family. • I love God. All the same word in our English language … all with different levels of meaning and application. So what is love? Can we really know if we are walking in love, as God commanded? Let's explore the different levels of love.

We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey. ~Kenji Miyazawa It is a common tale. My client was upset by the tension at her job. Management changes had everyone nervous – clients and employees. “How can this happen?” “What happens next?” “Why can’t everything just be like it was?” Now here’s the interesting part. She is on the far side of a messy divorce. After more than 30 years of marriage, her husband came home one day and told her he was done, didn’t love her anymore, wanted ‘out’. “How could this happen?” “What happens to me now?”r

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. ~ Phil. 4:6-7 How easy it is to succumb to emotion, to surrender to the feelings that overwhelm and threaten us. How hard it is to give up our selfishness and move forward into peace and victory. Yet that’s what it is – selfishness. “I feel this way, and everyone else is wrong. I hurt so it doesn’t matter how you feel.”

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity. ~ Louis Pasteur There’s an old adage that says, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”. It’s a good thought, but it doesn’t include the whole truth. You see, the word ‘try’, in this case, means to attempt something. It does not necessarily mean a commitment to succeed. Do you remember your mom asking you to do something you really didn’t want to do? You responded, “I’ll try, Mom.” Did you do it? Probably not. ‘Try’ just isn’t strong enough to inspire effort.

“The most pathetic person in the world is a person who has their sight but no vision.” Helen Keller. The first step toward success is always simple. It may not be easy – there is a difference, of course; but it is simple. You have to know where you want to go. Success requires a map, a vision of your ideal … life, weight, relationship, job or vacation. If you want to succeed, you must first figure out where you are going. You will never arrive at your destination, your destiny, if you never decide where you want to go.

You’ve started exploring your passion. You’ve even begun to set goals for yourself. Now it’s time to take seriously your efforts to succeed.

“Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” rn~ Viktor Frankl Have you ever noticed that negative people seem to be immersed in lousy situations? Does it seem like people with positive attitudes seem to have all the ‘luck’? Actually, it’s more than good luck or bad luck. Win or lose, people attract their circumstances by their own attitudes and actions.

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Ruth Seebeck

My personal philosophy is "Be a Blessing" and "Don't sweat the small stuff ... it's all small stuff!". I've found through the years that most of the crises in our lives become less so with time. Just ask yourself, "Will it matter next Tuesday?" That's a simple way of putting the issue - whatever it is - in perspective.

Favorite quote: “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” ~ Christopher Robin to Pooh (A.A. Milne)
