Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Sally Shields

The bottom line is to really and truly learn to appreciate your MIL. After all, she did give birth to your husband and you are forever thankful to her for that! So, although there will always be problems because of a general lack of commonalities, goals and cultural pursuits, we just sort of have to give up that fantasy and let our MIL be herself. We must try to always give her the benefit of the doubt, and put our stubborn natures aside, generously sharing her son and the kids happily for the short time we have to be with her. We can all grow much closer to our MIL's through the children!

I leave you with this wish: that you may develop a respectful and loving relationship with your MIL and learn to appreciate her for who she is, where she came from and what she is to become. Take heed to one of the great spiritual laws of success: The quickest way to get what you want is to help others get what they want. Be a loving, kind, generous, openhearted, sensitive person and the world will reflect that back to youeven in the form of your mother-in-lawand she may just surprise you and turn out to be an ally and a friend!

Don't be afraid to fail. Don't waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It's OK to fail. If you're not failing, you're not growing. -H.
