The seeds of eating disorders can start from young. Girls are bombarded with images of the "perfect" body from the media. The Barbie doll image, which today also takes the form of movies and video games, the Princess culture that Disney promotes, and then later on in advertising, in print and on television, the image of the perfect body is reinforced.

Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders. Nearly 12 million women, or 12% of all women in the United States are diagnosed with depression at any time, compared to 7% of men or just over 6 million men. Mild and moderate depression can be differentiated from Major Depression or clinical depression. (University Health Services Tang Center Berkley, CA).

The symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder affect approximately two to three million in the United States. While ADHD is often referred to as a childhood disorder, it also affects adults and while up to 50% grow out of ADHD as they enter adulthood, many continue to have serious symptoms as adults. Natural remedies for ADHD have helped many who had serious symptoms of the disorder. While some natural remedies are clearly commercial attempts at selling supplements, a non-pharmaceutical, non-supplemental method of treating ADHD has proven to be effective.

For the majority of Internet users with children, the internet in the home, or even in a child or teen's bedroom, is a wide open door to the world. That is, few parents take time the time to investigate parental controls on their children's internet. Some feel that the school will most likely educate their children on the subject. Others assume their children are responsible enough to handle it. Parents Need to Educate Themselves in Computer Literacy

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Scott Wolfenden

* Much can be accomplished in self help for mental health disorders.

* Lifestyle changes can make a difference.

* Medications are being overprescribed for mental health disorders.

* ADHD rarely (never) requires medication.

Symptoms of ADHD can be overcome by the majority of children and teens by cutting back on television, movie and video game time, toning down the intensity of music and amount of time on non-educational electronics/internet, by giving children love and attention, as well as attention to diet: low sugar, low carbs, low on additives, no caffeine. Parents, psychologists, encourage parents to take the TV and video games, the Internet, out of the child's bedroom! Set time limits on media time! Don't let children watch violence on TV, movies and video games! It will make a difference in ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder.

For mild and moderate depression, reliable university studies have demonstrated that moderate exercise 3-5 times a week helps depression more than medication in both the short and long-term.

30% of the symptoms of bipolar disorder can be remedied through attention to diet and nutrtion, cutting out cigarette smoking, and cutting out alcohol or other substance abuse.

Antidepressants have serious symptoms including sexual dysfunction (50% of adults), and an increase in suicidality in age groups of children up to age 24.

Attention to mental hygiene is a necessity. Spiritual needs are also important to fulfill.

Green therapy also works for ADHD and depression, that is getting out of the house and hiking, playing in the park, etc.
