ABC’s of Self-Realization: X-ceeding X-cuses

I am taking creative license here to discuss the ever-present, negative habit of providing excuses for everything we subconsciously choose to not be responsible for in our lives. One very important truth in understanding the reality of excuses is that they are nothing but “reasons with lies inside.” Think about that carefully for a moment.
We have reasons for so many things in our life, yet the reasons we don’t follow through, or misspeak (rather than “lie”), for example, is because we have guilt or shame or embarrassment for not keeping our word. So we do subtle “denial” – which, as I have mentioned before stands for: Don’t Even kNow I Am Lying. We try to con ourselves into believing our excuses are totally valid. Ok. Sometimes, they are. If it was unintentional due to some major event that was unexpected, then, we can renegotiate and make another option (i.e., Plan B), if we need to. It’s when our reasons are due to the lack of our motivation, or the shadow of fear devouring us, (or whatever else it may be) that it is then considered an excuse.
Remember, F-E-A-R is False Expectations Appearing Real – that fear we believe is devouring us is actually just a result of our thoughts about something, not that the “something” is actually and literally fearful. If we would choose to live from the innate empowered part of ourselves, it seems sensible that we would also choose to stay out of denial. We would choose to face our shortcomings and take the necessary steps to rectify our lack of responsibility towards someone else.
Many things seem to change the course of our lives, no doubt about that. Life doesn’t always go as smooth as we wish it would. Yet, when the unexpected jumps into our vision, we can gather up our courage and our conviction and our innate strength to face the person or people we “let down” and we can let them know that we are sincere in our desire to fix whatever didn’t get done. There is always, always more than one option for every obstacle or difficulty we encounter on our journey. That should garner a huge sigh of relief within our souls. It definitely makes me feel better, I can tell you that for sure!
Please, please know that every difficult situation or obstacle is truly only temporary. The only constant thing in life is change. Therefore, we don’t ever have to stay stuck in our excuses – nothing ever has to be a “reason with a lie inside!”

Dear Keith and Maura, Do you think it means anything if a guy you like at work happens to give you his cell phone number out of the blue, or if you ask that guy – joking around – if he can give you a ride home from work and he has a big grin on his face? I work at a grocery store ...

How Could This Be About Me?
Dear Keith and Maura, I just found your website and podcasts yesterday and they totally resonate with me. I am a very active youthful 55. I was widowed suddenly at 32 with 2 babies. My soulmate died and I was lost and devastated. I banged around for 10 years raising my boys, working and trying to find a similar loving relationship as I had. I met losers, liars, cheaters, alcoholics, and abusers.
