Ask Astrid: Are My Fears Rooted in Past-Life Experiences?

You’ve probably come across stories of children relating past-life events or memories to stunned adults. Some have been documented and are quite amazing.

No doubt we have had past lives – states of consciousness in other states of being or form.

As a hypnotherapist, having specialized in past-life regression, I am awed by how clients relate past-lift events. One of my first clients, under deep trance, told me in a foreign voice that she was an extra-terrestrial being with palmed feet, living on a foreign land. I didn’t know what to make of it, but I continued as she correlated her present issue with something that had happened to her when she was “the being with palmed feet,” and after she awoke, her problem was resolved and she never looked back.

“What does it matter if you did live a past life or not, if you feel better now,” I thought.

The brainiac that I am, I never quite trusted my own past-life memories. What if it were just a trick of the mind, connecting bizarre thoughts to present issues?

It may not matter to me, but for some, it matters. I hosted a great radio show about this woman who felt she had lived the life of Marie Antoinette. One of the woman’s friends wrote a book about it, relating her story. A renowned psychic medium validated the story and a scientific researcher confirmed the possibility of the two women being one-and-the-same at different times of existence. I don’t know if she was the same person or not, but I do know that these stories hold truth to the person who lives them.

Additionally, scientists are making great progress on connecting genetic behavioral patterns to ancestral bloodlines. Our bodies are structures of energy that hold much more information than we can ever imagine. Some of this information we inherit: our blue eyes, our weird toes, our noses – even boobs. Grandfathers love seeing their grandsons hold their hands the same way they do. Grandmothers love seeing their granddaughters flick their hair or – like my daughter says – do the hip – the way they used to. Through the physical encoding of genes, behavior seems to transcend time, so why not consider the idea that they could encode fear factors?

Except that past lives aren’t always bloodline related. The Dalai Lama is always born into another’s family, and yet only this special child could know what his favorite toys were the last time around. This isn’t about genes anymore, this is about transcending consciousness. Can fear transcend into form and generate instinctual reactions that couldn’t be explainable any other way?

I am careful when answering this, as my son has been hyper-sensitive to anything placed over his head since birth. However, he also had trouble coming through and ended up being born by C-section. I wouldn’t be so fast in stating this was because of a past life or a past-life fear. However, past lives – I believe – do exist. Everything in life transforms and consciousness flows through it all. It’s easy to see how focused consciousness can simply change form in relationship to the formative alignments it connects to after the disconnect to its physical form here. It has yet to be determined just how much consciousness our bodies keep after death, but reports tell of after-life emotions, so why wouldn’t fear be one of them?

I’m being as logical as possible here, my spiritual opinion holding the greater aspects of what I believe to be true. In the long run, it’s all about what can help us to “better be” in the moment. So if delving into your past lives can help you take away fear, go for it! Take your time and space to heal, and be a greater being for it!

Self-love is very essential in boosting our self-esteem. Grave danger in uprooting a Guru Do not accept a known guru as guru, and if you do, then do not turn your back on him. Use a pot if you do not like him. The pot will not have any problems. How can one understand all this? Questioner: At the time we make someone our guru, he appears to be very good, he

Questioner: If we surrender to the great souls that lived thousands of years ago, can that be considered surrender? Can we make any progress through such surrender or do we need to surrender to a living great man? Dadashri: You can progress even through Paroksha (indirectly- one not currently living). However if you find such a living (Pratyaksh) person, then your liberation will be instant. The indirect approach will give you the benefit of progress but there is no liberatio
