How to Enter The Formless in Meditation

"One of the main reasons
why it is so difficult
to let go of your identification
with thinking in meditation
is fear.
You begin to witness thoughts,
you can even let desires go,
you move past the dream state,
then suddenly the identification with yourself
as an individual separate person
is broken and you are formless.
Yes, it is freeing.
But only a few seconds go by
and you have to grab hold
of identification again.
It's a knee-jerk reaction.
Like you have to come back
and make sure everything is still here.
Make sure the body is here,
the mind is here
the dog's not peeing on the rug
and the house isn't on fire.
You are confronted
with the very essence of the ego
which is control.
Because when you move into the formless,
there is an infinite power
far greater than the ego.
So in order to go beyond
the individual self,
there has to be complete relaxation.
The complete allowing
of everything to be as it is.
You can't force anything.
You can only allow
and witness
and then rest in non-action.
You let go and for a few seconds
you're formless
and then you come back
and you see the world didn't end.
So you are willing
to let go a little longer.
Ultimately,
the bliss makes it easy.
The bliss helps you feel
that everything is well taken care of.
You relax into bliss
and then you happily move
into the formless.
You do it every time you go to sleep.
You lie down and happily give up
all sense of individual self and control
to be immersed in the formless
for 8 hours.
So there is nothing to fear
about the formless.
In fact,
it is here in every moment.
You might only think
that it is something separate.
That this physical world
and the formless
are two separate things.
But if you look
you will see they are the same.
You can experience the formless
in everything.
Blessings,
Kip"

Workplace Romance - Should You Or Shouldn't You?
Dear Keith and Maura, Do you think it means anything if a guy you like at work happens to give you his cell phone number out of the blue, or if you ask that guy – joking around – if he can give you a ride home from work and he has a big grin on his face? I work at a grocery store ...

Would You Rather Be Right Or Happy?
This question was asked in one of the first self-improvement seminars we ever took, and it had quite a profound impact. It was mind-boggling to think about the amount of needless suffering we had inflicted upon ourselves in relationships, simply by being attached to our position. It must be ...

How Could This Be About Me?
Dear Keith and Maura, I just found your website and podcasts yesterday and they totally resonate with me. I am a very active youthful 55. I was widowed suddenly at 32 with 2 babies. My soulmate died and I was lost and devastated. I banged around for 10 years raising my boys, working and trying to find a similar loving relationship as I had. I met losers, liars, cheaters, alcoholics, and abusers.
