Resolutions - giving blessings to those who are less fortunate than us

As we exit the holiday season and enter a New Year, one that I believe will be one of much joy and prosperity, we look back at 2010 to ponder all that we’ve experienced through the year and make our resolutions of what we wish to do to make 2011 a year of bliss and serenity. We are in an age of ever-increasing consciousness and awareness. We as women are finding our way to our center, to that place of authenticity, where we are connected to the Source of all life. As we begin to radiate this Divine light within, we become suffused with love for ourselves and for all those that we touch. We create our own sacred space and then in our own special ways using our own special gifts, we reach out and encourage one another to join in a universal gathering from which the voice of Great Mother can be heard. From this collective effort, we can help to change the world…we can help to bring stability and equilibrium to a world that has gotten off kilter. Let us look forward to what we can do to carry all of humankind out of the storms of calamity and misfortune that has descended upon so many, to an oasis of peace, abundance and happiness.
It doesn’t take much to help someone in need…someone who is less fortunate than us. We have all heard of “random acts of kindness”…“paying it forward”…the “ripple effect.” The smallest of acts can have monumental effects. A smile to a stranger. A dollar to a homeless beggar on the street. Paying the toll for the person behind you. Paying for lunch for a classmate so he won’t go hungry. They can start very subtly, but oh how they can grow into something beyond our wildest imagination. If you haven’t read the book or watched the movie “The Blind Side,” then you really must. How did Sean and Leah Tuohy know that their generosity toward a burly African American teenager of the streets would propel him into stardom in the NFL? I had the opportunity to listen to Leah Tuohy’s very engaging keynote speech at the Texas Conference for Women in November 2010 in my hometown, Houston, TX. I was mesmerized by her story, and could only think about what I could do to perform a similar act of kindness…in some small way. I deliberated about the walls that I had built around me to protect myself from those I thought might harm me…protecting me from those that I felt were of a lower caliber than me. If I had see
Michael Oher on the street, all 6’5” and 350 lbs of him, would I have had the courage to do what Leah did? What her family did? Sometimes we have to tear down the walls of fear and arrogance and set aside the filtered glasses that we wear, allowing us only to perceive things through our own personal truths. As I mention above, when we come from the space within, from that holy place where the Source of Universal Truth lies, it’s only natural to want to expand beyond our own boundaries and embrace another with an act of kindness.
So again, as we ponder what our New Year’s resolutions are going to be, perhaps it would be most gracious for us to be so very grateful for all we that have and to remember those who could use our love and compassion. Reach out to those in need…lend them a hand in whatever way you can. Use the gifts you’ve been blessed with and share them in every possible way. Help to bring unity and peace and joy to our magnificent world. You never know if your act of kindness will help the next Albert Einstein or Mozart or Margo Fonteyn or Steven Spielberg.

Workplace Romance - Should You Or Shouldn't You?
Dear Keith and Maura, Do you think it means anything if a guy you like at work happens to give you his cell phone number out of the blue, or if you ask that guy – joking around – if he can give you a ride home from work and he has a big grin on his face? I work at a grocery store ...

Would You Rather Be Right Or Happy?
This question was asked in one of the first self-improvement seminars we ever took, and it had quite a profound impact. It was mind-boggling to think about the amount of needless suffering we had inflicted upon ourselves in relationships, simply by being attached to our position. It must be ...

How Could This Be About Me?
Dear Keith and Maura, I just found your website and podcasts yesterday and they totally resonate with me. I am a very active youthful 55. I was widowed suddenly at 32 with 2 babies. My soulmate died and I was lost and devastated. I banged around for 10 years raising my boys, working and trying to find a similar loving relationship as I had. I met losers, liars, cheaters, alcoholics, and abusers.
