Your identity is your perception of who you are in this world; it’s the image you hold of yourself in your head. Early on in life you decided what character you were going to play in the theatre of life and you’ve proceeded to act in accordance with the personality, traits, and qualities of said character ever since. In the words of the bard William Shakespeare: “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players. . .” If wealth and success have so far eluded you, it’s very likely that your self image—that is, the character you’ve chosen to play--is largely to blame. The solution is to create the right character for yourself; the type of character that experiences wealth and success.
How do you learn about a character in a story? You observe their actions; you pay attention to what they say and how they say it; you notice how they relate to other characters and how other characters respond to them. In addition, what a character wears, how they walk, and how they deal with disappointment are all clues as to who that character is, and what life situations he or she is likely to experience. Start noticing all of these things in yourself; can you see why you’ve drawn certain people or certain experiences into your life?
Decide what kind of life you would like to experience, and then think of who you would have to be in order to have those situations come to pass. If you would like to have a healthy, fit body, this will be very difficult to accomplish if you hold the self image of a fat person in your head. If you wish to be successful, it will be almost impossible for you to achieve success if you see yourself as a failure, or as someone who will never amount to anything, or as someone who never finishes what they start. Get rid of the image of a person who’s not deserving, or who can’t get what they want, and you’ll be laying the foundation for excellence.
This doesn’t mean that you’re going to pretend to be someone you’re not. It just means that you’re going to let go of those elements of your self-image that don’t serve you well. At the same time, you’re going to optimize your identity to empower you to enjoy more success, happiness and fulfillment in life. It’s you, only better.
If you want to be wealthy, you need to adopt an identity that is congruent with a healthy money flow. So, how do you need to see yourself in order to allow wealth to flow into your life? Who do you need to be? Below are some examples of the way you might choose to see yourself in order to become rich:
- I’m comfortable around money.
- I behave responsibly around money.
- I’m a problem solver.
- I have the ability to recognize opportunity.
- I see opportunities all around me and I act to take advantage of those opportunities.
- I have all of the street smarts I need to make a lot of money.
- I trust myself to take care of my money.
- I’m financially aware. I enjoy learning about finances and investing.
- I make informed decisions on how to invest my money.
- People like me are wealthy.
- I’m an achiever and a go-getter.
- I’m a success.
- I make things happen.
- I’m determined to be wealthy.
- I’m persistent.
In order to adopt your new self–image you need to let go of the old one. However, you’re probably very tied to your old, tired story. After all, you know your character very well and are used to the way he or she behaves and feels. It can be very difficult to move outside of your comfort zone, even if it’s to experience a better and richer life.
One way to let go of the old mental scripts that are holding you back is by applying the Sedona Method. This is a simple, but proven method that will help you release old scripts and beliefs so that you can create a new story for yourself. This method has helped thousands of people world-wide and is endorsed by the biggest names in the personal development industry. In fact, Hale Dwoskins, one of the founders of the Sedona Method, was one of the teachers featured in the movie “The Secret”. Once you’ve let go of the mental programming that is sabotaging your attempts at wealth and success, you’ll be ready to adopt a new self-image that will help you create the life of your choice.n n n

How Could This Be About Me?
Dear Keith and Maura, I just found your website and podcasts yesterday and they totally resonate with me. I am a very active youthful 55. I was widowed suddenly at 32 with 2 babies. My soulmate died and I was lost and devastated. I banged around for 10 years raising my boys, working and trying to find a similar loving relationship as I had. I met losers, liars, cheaters, alcoholics, and abusers.
