Ask Astrid - How can I shift out of a downward spiral? Do you pick up a cigarette when you're feeling uncomfortable and needing to "leave". Are you the kind that blows up, or goes running? And when you're spinning down, do you refuse to get out of bed? To take flight or refuge from going downwards is Natural! Don't beat yourself up for it. It's your way of saying, "Stop. I need time - to myself." But do it right. Go and do take time for yourself. Find that safe, healthy, comfortable place where you can recuperate.

First of all, obesity is a problem all over the world, including in France. I remember in high school eating doughnuts every day – fresh, still warm – my favorites were the ones with cream inside! Yum. So good! But I also walked two miles to school every day! I went dancing every Friday, played sports and participated in 60 km, midnight hikes every year. Fresh out of college, I ate pasta most nights and I was lucky if I could add some cheese to it. Fresh organic fruits and vegetables are ridiculously expensive in Paris. I preferred keeping my money for trips around Europe.

Yes, no, maybe so! People call me psychic. They believe that I can tell the future. Edgar Cayce, one of America’s greatest, foretold plenty, as did Nostradamus, although his complex prose can be interpreted in many ways for events that have since come to pass – or not. Sometimes even I am skeptical about psychic gifts. Not all who claim to be psychic are, and even among the gifted, some are better skilled at recognizing, understanding and communicating the energy patterns they see.

Theoretically, yes. The problem is that we don’t! I’m a Reiki Master. One day, my hand was badly burnt. I had guests over and it took all my smiles to try to forget the pain that was rushing through my sore hand whilst continuing to eat! I was furious at not being able to instantly heal. I was doubting my own ability, doubting the “art,” doubting God … the next day, I did a Reiki session on a woman who had such severe arthritis that she couldn’t move her fingers. Forty-five minutes later, the lady was playing piano again for the first time in years.

Oh gosh, I remember the first (and only, thank God!) time my child had a tantrum in a big store. Not pleasant! You can’t just leave him there as you would at home, fighting it off on his own until he gives up. You can’t grab and drag, because you don’t want to be that parent. You can’t reason with him, because by that time he’s already out of his mind. So what do you do?

In my profession, I’m often asked what tarot cards are and how people “read” them. Simply put: tarot cards are a tool -- nothing more, nothing less. They happen to be a really good tool if you consistently use them the same way. These days you have “tarot” cards that are not “tarot” at all. In fact, even the classic tarot decks include added cards and pictures that came after card-reading ever began. So if you’re relying on magical cards to tell you the truth, forget it. Paper, print and pictures came long after divination was born.

I find that meditating every day in the shower works best for me. You need five to 10 minutes to yourself, where you can consciously cleanse and clear your mind and body. Doing this at the same time every day makes for a great meditation routine. Meditating is about clearing your mind, relaxing your body and initiating contact with your higher self and other dimensions.
