I have glaucoma along with (photophobia) a visual processing disorder. So, I know the drill when it comes to living with a disability, and for me, I was labeled as being, "dumb." As such, I relied on being beautiful on the outside to feed my self-esteem and became Miss Norfolk Teen USA for a state pageant. It wasn't until I served as a youth missionary in Chennai, India working in a children's AIDS Clinic and in a Leprosy Colony, I discovered "perseverence." These individuals accepted everyday as being a gift. The smiles they wore could melt the coldest of hearts, and from them, I was introduced to "inner beauty."
After coming back home, I decided to build my inner beauty (my self-esteem) and get a college education; despite having a complicated disability. I started helping men and women to live a healthy lifestyle, which includes besides a nutritional diet, taking care of one's hair and skin. In other words, one's overall beauty.

She blow-dried and styled my hair. Then, she took several photographs. At that time, Norfolk did not have an actual pageant and I was selected by submitting these photographs. It was her way of showing me that I was not unattractive. I was elated to represent my city!r

It hasn’t been easy trying to select a hair care product that doesn’t have at least one dangerous chemical. So, I considered creating my own homemade shampoo. Years ago, when my grandmother was alive, she created her own shampoo and the bald spot she had on the side of her head began to fill in. I wish I had her recipe. So, I tried recreating what I thought Grandma used on her hair, but it was a total fiasco. My hair had a greasy-feel to it and I had less curl tha I had before. My mother suggested that perhaps the ingredients Grandma used were no longer sold on the market.

My mother started taking a daily herbal supplement for hair containing a special proprietary blend. She figured ‘why not!’ She knew that herbal supplements can take an average of four months before noticing a difference. She is a strong believe in this, since it took four months for her to notice a change in my brother’s neurological behavior.

A Green Food Miracle Part One
It had been a rough twenty-four hours for Mom, Dad, Lisa, and myself worrying about Ace. He had run away from home! Mom and I got down on our knees to pray for divine intervention. None of us realized just what Ace was dealing with after he graduated from high school. He started college, lived in the dorms, but eventually had to return home as failure. Somehow, Ace had developed some kind of rash covering more of his body and was shaking like a leaf. Mom managed to get an appointment with his neurologist.

A Green Food Miracle Part Two
Mom had heard about a tiny green plant when Ace started middle school. He wanted to do a research project about the space station. They’d read about the need to grow spirulina on board for oxygen and as a food source. Since spirulina grew so quickly and is easy to maintain, it was a perfect food choice. Mom and Ace never knew in their wildest dreams, they would actually add this amazing, tiny green plant into their diet.

Mom had mentioned the first time Ace showed signs of improvement was in his muscle tone and memory alertness. He used to lean when walking, like Frankenstein. Now, he began standing and walking like everyone else. After that, he began to show immediate response to any form of communication. Ace would look directly at someone maintaining direct eye contact and didn’t stutter. My brother seemed like a different person. At first I was jealous, but then I realized that if he couldn’t provide an income for himself, who would take care of him if something happened to Mom or Dad?

Ace had great success in eliminating his signs of having autism, by consuming spirulina on a daily basis.
