Are you suffering and not coping well after losing a sibling? If you are, I know what you are going through and I am here to help you. In 1981 my brother was killed in a car accident. It was my first week of college and I came home for Labor Day Weekend. My parents were going out to dinner with my sister and brother-in-law and his parents. They were telling the parents that they were going to have a baby; the first grandchild on each side of the family. My brother was going out to listen to a band that evening and my boyfriend was going to come over to visit.

People do understand what you are going through, because odds are, someone in this world has gone through exactly the same situation as you are; however, this is your loss. This is what makes every loss individual. The good news is, is that there is help out there. There are things that you can start doing immediately to help you accept a loss and move forward. Have you been noticing all the negative things going on in the world lately? That is one reaso I don't watch the news or read the newspapers. To be honest, lately our family has been experiencing one negative ordeal after another. I was getting down. Then, I made myself stop. I told myself to practice what I preach. I make my life. I choose how I will react to things, not the situations coming into my life. So, I started coaching myself by asking myself questions. My hope is that nobody was listening to me talk to myself! But, it helped.

Now, we are getting into the preparation of the holiday. To prepare, we can use visualization to help us get ready for the actual holiday and gatherings. Visualization is picturing in your mind what you want. You picture what you are wearing, where you are, who you are with, how you want to act at a particular gathering, etc.

Is there life after divorce? You bet there is, if you let there be. I was divorced in 2003, after 13 years of marriage. It was a marriage that probably never should have happened, but something that I would do all over again simply because it made me the person I am today, and gave me 2 beautiful daughters. I learned from the marriage and the divorce. I learned how to be more independent, creative and how to "do it all" and more! It made me a stronger individual. This isn't something that happens right away.
