Two interesting things happened this week, both good, both difficult. I finished reading Mitch Albom`s `The Five People You Meet in Heaven` and it really made me think about some of my past experiences and who my 5 would probably be when I go to heaven, no worries, I am definitely going to heaven. Definitely a book worth reading, I thoroughly enjoyed it, very thought provoking.

Have you made any mistakes in your lifetime? I know I have. But was I having fun at the time? Sometimes. Will I make those same mistakes again? No, but I will probably make other mistakes. That is the key, make mistakes but don't repeat them. In order to truly live a fulfilling and joyful life, it is necessary to take chances and try new experiences. Living life is not about not making mistakes, it is not about living in fear. Truly living is doing what makes you happy, brings you joy, fuels your passion.

Compassion is a virtue that is motivated by cherishing other living beings and wishing to release them from their suffering. Compassion is made up of two words. 'co' meaning together and 'passion' meaning a strong feeling. And this is what compassion is. When we see someone is in distress and we feel their pain as if it were our own, and strive to eliminate or lessen their pain, then this is compassion. The Dalai Lama has said, "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."

This phrase/quote has been running through my head a lot lately. Change is the only constant factor in life. This is a paraphrase of the quote by "Heraclitus". It seems that I really resonate with this quote, especially in the past few years. I feel like this is my mantra because my life is constantly changing, always for the better!!! The past few months especially, I have been extremely busy with many different projects and engaging with many new people. Sometimes projects, events, and people come into your life out of the blue.

It is hard to believe that 2011 has come and gone. 2011 was a crazy year for me it seems. Recent events in my personal life have forced me to look at life in a much deeper way and I have found that although I have experienced many challenges in 2011, I have also been blessed with many miracles as well.

If you could live your best life right now without worrying about money or any other limitations, what would you do? A friend of mine posed this question to me earlier this week and that inspired me to share this idea with all of you. This is a great question to ask yourself at the beginning of the new year or anytime for that matter. Every day, every moment is a new beginning.

What does it mean to "have an attitude of gratitude"? What is gratitude? How can gratitude change your life? Gratitude to me is being grateful and thankful for everything in our lives. This includes the people in our lives, the lessons and challenges in our lives, the things that bring us joy and comfort, the basic necessities of life, etc. It means not taking anything for granted and accepting and appreciating what we have and who we are right now. Having an attitude of gratitude shifts our awareness from what we are lacking to the abundance that we already possess.

Did you know that our thoughts, words, and actions create our reality? Amazing concept, isn't it? We create what we think about. We create what we talk about. We create what we act out. We can create the life we truly want by changing our thoughts, words, and actions. It sounds simple, doesn't it? It really can be this simple!!! It all starts with a question, what do you truly want? Imagine there is a genie standing in front of you who is asking you what you want, anything you want.

Have you ever had the desire to do something for yourself, but didn’t because you thought you were being selfish? It could be something as small as taking a nap in the middle of the afte oon or going to the spa or going for a walk. It could be something as big as changing your career or changing where you live or changing your relationship. But the point is that sometimes we come to a point in our lives when we need to think of ourselves and take care of ourselves and do things for ourselves even though the action may offend others or change the way others see us.

There has been a lot of talk about using positive affirmations in the last few years. But do they really work? Positive affirmations can be used to train your mind. They help to eliminate negative self-talk which can be very damaging. In my past articles I mentioned that we create our reality based on our thoughts. So if we are thinking negative thoughts, then obviously our life will reflect those thoughts. If we are thinking positive thoughts then our current and future reality will be a reflection of those thoughts.
