Prevent Temper Don't Manage It
From simple annoyance to fiery rage, loss of temper, with its emotional and physiological mayhem, so mess with your life that it’s time to prevent, not just manage the thunder. Lashing out in anger over even the smallest slights or obstacles only makes sense if your goal is to strip yourself of peace and inflame your bitte ess and indignation.

What Millennials Can Teach Us About Positivity
How can a group of 80 million young Americans suffering from mind-bogglingly high unemployment rates still be positive, buoyant and survive? Leave it to Millennials to do exactly that. "Life is Meant to Be Enjoyed, Not Endured"
“Enjoy when you can, and endure when you must,” counseled Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. But what’s with the “must”, JW? When “must” we “endure”? By the time you finish this column, you’ll realize you don’t need to ever endure life, but rather you can find enjoyment in every moment of it—even when the bills are high, the rent is due, the job is floundering, the family is facing some difficulties and the doctor has some not so welcome news.

Catching Your Eye is One Thing, Catching Your Heart is Another
Valentine’s Day may well have started as the Roman version of “match.com.” Young single men and women placed their names in a box, names were drawn randomly and couples were put together as partners for a year. After that it was up to them. Robert Browning pointed to the essence of the foundation of Valentine’s Day when he said, “Grow old with me! The best is yet to be.” And as my teacher and mentor, Albert Ellis, Ph.D. liked to say, “The art of love is largely the art of persistence.”r

Charism: It's Easier Than You Think
George Eliot noted, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” If who you might have been is someone with more charisma, it’s definitely not too late to learn how to be just that. There you are at the podium, presentation in hand but you’ve got one problem. Your hands are perspired and shaking. You are so busy telling yourself that you don’t have the charisma you need to communicate, captivate and motivate your audience, that you wish the ceiling would collapse and everyone would just run out, saving you from your self-predicted failure.

Do You Have an Angry Workplace?
We’ve all heard about road rage. But, have you heard about the latest area for people to dump their anger? Desk rage. Well, maybe it’s not really the latest. I wrote a book about violence in the workplace in 1994, “Ticking Bombs: Defusing Violence in the Workplace”. Same disease, now a new hipper name.

Don't Exercise Without Rolling the DICE
Your health, wellbeing and fitness are more than a roll of the dice. Or are they? According to three business gurus that’s exactly what it is, a roll of the dice. But in this instance, the DICE to which they are referring are based on a carefully done and well-respected study dating back to 1992 in which they looked at 225 companies over a two-year period of time and learned that DICE are exactly what distinguishes successful and unsuccessful change efforts in businesses.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff PS It's All Small Stuff: The Story
In 1988 when I wrote “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: PS It’s All Small Stuff,” little did I know that a number of years later my book would go into three printings, have an audio version, be celebrated and awarded wonderful titles like “Good Morning America’s” "Hot Pick" and “Publishers Weekly Magazine’s” "Listen Up Award: Best Audio of 1996.” I also didn’t anticipate the controversy. Ahhh, yes the controversy. I didn’t sweat it.

Dr. Michael Mantell Says, "Life's A Game: Play It"
Michael Mantell, Ph.D. is convinced that if there was a drug that offered all of the benefits that play does, it’d be the biggest seller on the planet. But who needs to buy a pill when play is free, available 24 hours a day, and no is ever prescription needed? Plato did prescribe, “Life must be lived as play,” suggesting he understood the value of this pervasive, natural, purposeless, pleasurable phenomena that typically begins with anticipation and ends with a smile. He also wisely observed, “You can tell more about a person in one hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Michael Mantell's Rule When People Suck the Life Out of You: Unsubscribe
Maybe it’s just me. But lately, I’ve run into far too many people who I would best describe as “life-diminishing.” They are filled with judgments, criticisms, and negativity. They are quick to tell others what they must do, what they must refrain from doing, what they should and shouldn’t do, what’s good and not good for them, what is right and what is wrong. As if they know. And besides, who asked them in the first place? Why are they so worried about what others are doing? Maybe it’d be better if they worried about why they worried so much about what others were doing!r

Maslow observed that physiological needs were the first that we were motivated to take care of, followed by safety, love/belonging, esteem and finally, at the top of the pyramid, self-actualization.

Are You Giving Away Your Power?

We are looking to other people to give us the answers we already have. By searching outside of ourselves, we have created a culture that shuns personal responsibility and denies the wisdom of the inner voice.

Bad Food is a Myth
I’ve talked before about the idea that there is no such thing as a “good” or “bad” food. That “good” and “bad” imply moral reasoning, of which inanimate objects such as food have none. That “good” and “bad” are subjective: I may consider almond milk ice cream to be “bad” because it has sugar in it and another may consider it “good” because it doesn’t have processed sugar and cream in it.r

In our culture, it’s typical to keep setting goals for yourself and striving towards those goals. It’s also fairly standard that once you reach a goal, you set a new one. How do you find time to do what you love?
The other weekend I went to this amazing event called Chantlanta. There was, of course, kirtan, but they also had classes in yoga, 5 rhythms, and meditation. The whole experience was amazing. After only a couple of hours, I left feeling renewed and rejuvenated. I felt like a whole new person. It totally changed the course of my day and the day after that. Have you ever had an experience like that? Something that makes you feel so good that the good feelings last for days? This is a fairly common occurrence with group events like workshops, seminars, and retreats.

Taking Great Risks & Making Great Strides
Sometimes you gotta take a risk. It’s how you break past your comfort zone and into uncharted territory that has the potential to push you forward towards the result(s) you’ve been wanting. For a long, long time I’ve wanted to be in love with my body. I’ve wanted to be OK with the way that it looks and moves and is shaped. I’ve wanted to stop poring over magazines and wishing that I had “this woman’s thighs” or “that woman’s breasts.” That had to change.

What to Do When You Have Little to No Time
Time flies. Regardless of whether it’s 2012 or any other year, time seems to go by way too quickly. Bio-Individuality. Have you heard that term before? Bio-Individuality is kind of like saying, "There are no two people who are exactly alike on this planet." It means taking an individualized approach to the way we deal with health, wellness, and any other lifestyle factors. “The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man” ~ Author Unknown As someone who struggled with food, and weight for many years, I know that there is much more to overeating than meets the eye.
