ARTArticleRelationships: Longevity of a Couple -- It is PossibleDoes being together for a long time mean people like each other more or less? Does it mean they are used to each other and settle for habits each one cannot stand in the other? Does it mean love is easier and smoother and there is more tolerance for each other? Does it mean the knowledge of what really counts in life? These many questions have various answers depending on the individual situation of each couple and what they consciously work out with each other.ARTArticleSelf-Care Tips for EMDR Therapists to Prevent Burnout and Secondary PTSDAs we have been exploring how to help clients stay resourced over the holidays, it is also important, as therapists, to stay resourced also. It is easy in this profession to forget about one’s own needs but still expect our client’s to maintain theirs. Listening and working with client’s issues and traumas all day long, can take a toll on one’s own psyche... emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically.ARTArticleSelf-DirectedMany times when I talk to people they tell me they are busy and they don’t know how to stop. They have to take the kids here and here and here. Or work is keeping them overtime. Or they have to attend so many meetings.

* Clear off your desk
* Create a project file
* Clean up a location
* Get a coach, buddy or support person for accountabilityrARTArticleSimplifying InformationI love to learn. Information is like catnip to me. So in order not to drown in information, I have had to systemize things.
Library Books
For instance, when I get library books, I look at how many pages the book is and how many days I have before it is due. I divide how many pages by how many days to find out about how many pages I need to read a day. Then I write that number on a small piece of paper, which becomes my bookmark. I don’t necessarily read that exact number of pages each day, but I try to stay close or I know I won’t finish the book on time.ARTArticleStress less from the inside outI have been reading various articles on dealing with anxiety; All well intentioned, and providing good advice, but is it the right advice?
Simply saying to not worry and be more content does little to help me. I know that’s what I need to do. It just makes me all the more frustrated when I can’t. I think, if I could just stop obsessing about this, maybe I wouldn’t be so anxious. I need to know how to stop.ARTArticleThe Gifts of WaitingStanding in line, waiting for the doctor, sitting in traffic do not sound like presents, but if we look closely at them we can see the gifts that waiting gives to us.
The Gift of Downtime
We complain that we have no downtime, but every time we wait in a line is an opportunity to slow down for a little while, to take a breather. No one is expecting anything from you at the moment. Often though, we are not relaxed in line. We complain, look at our watch, and think nasty thoughts about the people ahead of us in line. We have no control over how fast the line will move or traffic will go.ARTArticle5 Parenting Skills Any Parent Should KnowRegardless if your from New York or Philidelphia or Los Angeles, parenting is one of the toughest skillsets to learn. According to her school counselor, Daisy was hospitalized recently for suicidal ideation and needed to be seen for her depression. When Daisy walked into my office, the first thing I noticed was all of her piercing. She had a few piercing in her arms, a few on her cheek, and two on her chest. I also noticed the cuts on her wrists and shoulders. I put my observations to the side and decided to come back to them later. I had to build rapport with Daisy first.ARTArticleDisease and Chronic Illness: Can I Allow Myself to Get Better?When illness strikes in your life it can be devastating. You feel dreadful, and can no longer enjoy the things you used to love doing. There is now so much to worry about. How are you going to pay the mortgage and put food on the table? The dictionary defines a persona:
1. A voice or character representing the speaker in a literary work.
2. The characters in a dramatic or literary work.
3. The role that one assumes or displays in public or society; one’s public image or personality, as distinguished from the inner self.
I like to think it as a little play acting, a game of pretend to move yourself to action.ARTArticleRape and Sexual Assault: Liberation and Empowerment VisualisationAfter an assault, the first priority is to help your mind release the pain, shock and trauma of the experience in order to move on. So, any steps we can take to reduce our stress will be beneficial.ARTArticleStress, Burnout and Exhaustion: Self-Help Energy ExercisesImagine that your body's capacity to cope is like a bucket. The bucket represents your strength, your immune system, and your resistance to the stresses of life. Each time you put yourself under stress, it fills the bucket a little bit. Perhaps you are having a difficult time working with a new boss, then you argue with your partner and children. After that you catch the flu, then there is a rumour about job cuts. Each thing contributes a bit more stress to the bucket.ARTArticleStress, Burnout, Life Purpose and a Message From Your HeartToday's world is very stressful. We put ourselves under pressure on a daily basis, at work, at home, at school, and that pressure is never released. Day after day, year after year, the stress ramps up, putting more and more strain on our minds and bodies until one day things simply fall apart: the result is exhaustion, illness or depression. This is the conventional understanding.
However, is that all there is to it? Perhaps there is a more profound and spiritual interpretation of our high stress levels. Let's look a little deeper into this question.
