Rick Gettle © 2003 How would you like to see a permanent end to all of your problems? We all have problems – and our problems only end - when we do. The only people without problems are in the cemetery. I’d like to stick around – problems and all. How about you? No matter what problems we ...
It's widely accepted now that 'being ourselves' is one of the keys to personal happiness. It is also a key to effectiveness in the workplace, at home, and in our personal lives. In this article, I outline five reasons why I believe it’s harder to ‘be yourself’ than ever before. In a subsequent article, I will deal with how we might raise our self identity and develop our own unique authenticity. Understanding the five reasons will help us tackle the dilemma of 'why am I so miserable when I'm so well off'.
"The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. To dig for treasures shows not only impatience and greed, but lack of faith. Patience, patience, patience, is what the sea teaches. Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea." - Anne Morrow Lindbergh Standards are the behaviors you hold yourself to (as opposed to boundaries which are the behaviors you hold others to. Standards aren't

Everyone has a productivity personality. It’s the collection of strengths, weaknesses, and day-to-day habits that come together to determine how a person works best. I’ve written often about how important it is to get a handle on your own personal productivity personality, but it’s important that you don’t stop there. After all, most of us depend on others at some point in our day and the individual work styles and attitudes of those around us can have a huge impact on our own ability to get things done.
Ask, Believe, Receive Three words that are intended to unlock the secret, which as most of the world now knows is the code name for the ‘law of attraction’. You may or may not be a fan of The Secret, however I believe the fundamental formula of ask, believe, receive is sound. If only it were ...

The balanced Scorecard is one of the most popularly used strategy performance management tools currently being used in the corporate world is the Balanced Scorecard. Primarily, it is a tool used to measure the performance of individuals, projects or a whole business entity. For instance, organizations tend to make use of key performance indicators (KPIs), which are used in order to estimate the amount of progress made towards a project, or the achievement of a particular goal

I have observed a trend among those I mentor, consult with, and train. I can't say for certain if this is a growing trend, but I have observed it my entire professional life, and it has always been an obstacle to success. The problem? "I have to..." You see, most people ask what they "have to" do. They ask whether they "have to" be there. They wonder whether they "have to" work that hard. They argue that they shouldn't "have to" dress up for their job. I never hear successful people - in an area of life - ask this question.

What is radical ownership? Itâs seeing and owning that life is a mirror reflecting me back to me. All the things that happen in my life have one thing in commonâ¦ME. I am the common denominator in all that keeps showing up. Mike Dooley describes it beautifully in his Notes from The Universe: âIt's one kind of victory to slay a beast, move a mountain, and cross a chasm, but it's another kind altogether to realize that the beast, the mountain, and the chasm were of your ow
In my experience working with clients in coaching, many want to jump quickly into setting goals and making a plan. But, they loose focus quickly, get sidetracked easily, or can’t remember the goals they set or why they were important. I believe this happens because there is foundational work that needs to happen before successful goal setting can occur. And there can’t be personal accountability until some goals are set. In my thirteen years of working with organizations in strategic planning I used a process based on five key questions.
Barring those moments when we find ourselves in real physical danger, conditions of themselves have absolutely no authority over us. It's true. No event or circumstance has any power to make us feel one way or another. The only command any condition may have over us is that which we ...
I have noticed over time that there are distinct differences in the mindset and my entire set of lifestyle practices (be it in business, socializing, or conducting my personal affairs such as learning or just living) that I had at times which were characterized by either struggle or success, and I have noticed the same elements in my clients and the other people I have worked with over the course of my life and career. And so for your benefit I have composed a list of these 1
We all know that change is inevitable in life, but none of us likes change being imposed. Amazingly though, we often resist changes we want to make. Oh yes, we find ways to sabotage, resist and undermine change, EVEN WHERE WE SAY WE WANT IT, AND SEE IT AS GOOD! Examples include a career change, a desire to lose weight, or work changes that we are sponsoring. Here I examine three questions. • How do we resist desirable change? • Why do we resist? • What can we do about it?
Today’s society places us in many different rolls. We are the friend, the spouse, the parent or child, the employer or team member. We change our behaviors and personas to fit our different and evolving rolls and responsibilities. Like changing our clothes to fit the weather or activity, we lock our true selves into patterns of behavior and speech that “fit in” to the situation of the moment. Like politicians eating tacos in New Mexico and bagels in New York, we are constant
Our lives are meant to be bright, noble, and ever ascending. This promise of our True Potential is made good in us by the fulfillment of our possibilities, and not through the interminable struggle of trying to do what is impossible. Most of our sorrows are the offspring of trying to be ...
Many moons ago, our American founding fathers spurred a dialogue of constructive conflict that yielded a model constitution and a free republic. These innovators risked their lives in perilous times to give birth to a new nation. Some became very wealthy (e.g.- Washington, Franklin) while others died with no riches (e.g.- Jefferson, Madison). Country for these diverse men was above all, a first priority versus a selfish pursuit.
Thoughts have power. They drive our decisions, our goals, our dreams, and ultimately our lives. Are you living the life you've always dreamed of living? If not, then what were you thinking? What were you telling yourself all these years to get where you are today? Did you believe you were worthy of success, or did you have some doubts about your future? What did you tell yourself you could or could not do? What did you tell yourself you wanted to accomplish? When did you de
Success is your personal responsibility and not an entitlement! You can not assume nor expect that others will 'do for you' in the quest for your own personal desires; that only happens for children and not grown adults! Many who have aspirations of achieving success in various aspects of their lives often times fall short. All too frequently the cause for this can be traced back to a lack of personal accountability for their own efforts. There is no doubt that having goals a
If you really want to change your life and help build a better world for yourself and others, you might want to consider this little piece of advice: stop complaining. You donât have to travel far these days to come across this crippling habit â thereâs plenty of people fussing about the government, banks, large corporations and how theyâre bilking us out of every dollar we have. Youâll hear these conversations almost daily and the theme is usually the same: They â
In teaching young people to play violin and ocarina, I see them also learning skills that will help them in their studies, life and work. One of the amazing things about music education is how students pick up these skills through the process of learning to play an instrument. Through music instruction, children learn discipline, patience, problem-solving skills, confidence and responsibility. These character traits are developed through repetition, as students must slow down
Choosing to live ethically and with integrity isn't for the faint of heart. It means making choices and dealing with consequences that choosing to lie might help you avoid, at least in the short-term. Here are the top 10 reasons why it's worth the time and energy. 1. It's a great way to keep life simple. Life is complicated enough already, and it certainly seems like the trend is towards exponential complications in our society. Living with integrity is one way to keep it sim
Many of you will know about one of the iconic books of the recent self-help movement, the 'Secret'. Indeed, to call it a book ignores the DVD and the CD's that bear the same title. It also ignores the movement of disciples that has sprouted up around it. Now, as one who judges a group at least partly by its followers as well as by its ideas, the 'Secret' has caused me a feeling of disquiet for some time. While many movements down the years begin with a grain of truth, it usually gets followed by a huge dollop of propaganda that followers are expected to swallow wholesale.
What is your name? Why were you given that name? What does your name mean? Our name, a perfectly crafted combination of characters distinguishes us among 7 billion people on earth. It is our being, it carries our heritage and it was a gift of love from our parents. Our name gives us human definition in our early years and as we grow older, we further define our name in the global landscape. Are we smart, successful, kind, strong, talented or another characteristic that helps set us apart?

Years ago, my best friend called while I was studying for a test and told me that the lottery was at $200 million. I told her I had $5.00, gave her my numbers, and she bought my ticket. That night she called and said "girl you won, not the big one but you have 4 of the six numbers.” I thought I would have at least $50,000 or $100,000.00 The next day, she called, “how's your studying?” I said “ok, how's my money?” She kept saying “how's your studying?” I asked, “what did
It happens to the best of us. Things happen. People say things. Stuff breaks. Suddenly you look up and you are in the midst of a terrible situation. The buck stops with you and everyone is impatiently waiting for you to fix it. The good news is you are a highly responsible person so they have all confidence in your ability to make things right. The bad news is you are a highly responsible person and sometimes people don’t think to ask you if you could use a hand.
How do you feel about your life? Do you feel like you're on a treadmill, doing things you'd prefer not to do? Do you feel that you might only become powerful at the cost of being ethical? Personal power is a strange thing, and it has absorbed me for several years. On one level, it is crucial to our existence, and to living. Without power, the ability to convert energy into momentum, we have no existence whatsoever. Yet many people I deal with don't want power. Isn't that odd?
Wow, could you just make a decision already? Please! How many times have you heard that from yourself or others? You wonder why what seems like such a simple decision for others is so difficult for you. Or perhaps you are usually extremely decisive and yet find yourself waffling between the options presented like a kid in a candy store. Why are you struggling to make this decision? Here are 5 common reasons why you may be struggling to make that decision: 1. Your Thinking It "Should" Not Be This Difficult
Somewhere in a remote region of the Southweste United States, a park ranger was seated in his high tower. It overlooked the deep canyons and ravines that ran through the national park where he'd worked for the past twenty years. Looking out over the terrain through his binoculars, he could see a thunderstorm gathering in the west and knew it was only a matter of minutes until a flash flood would come crashing through the canyons below.

One thing I hear often is that by just thinking positive or speaking affirmations, you can overcome your fears. Unfortunately this well meaning sentiment is only part of the story. The other part is something you might not want to know. In order for you to truly get unstuck, it is necessary for you to face the fears and anxiety that is blocking your efforts to move forward.
We tell ourselves that we want a new life; in our minds we see ourselves reclaiming our right to live without limitations. We see ourselves walking away from destructive relationships and letting go of negative thoughts and feelings. And this is the very problem. We talk to ourselves about a fresh start and even plan the path we will take when things get right . . . but that’s it. We think, but rarely act. We dream, but won’t awaken to the one fact we must face if we would make a fresh start: The new beginning we long for is now or never.
My husband is a very fine musician, and as our business has grown, he has had less time to devote to practicing the violin. When he was able to start regularly practicing again recently, he soon found he had lost several pounds. How could that be? Violin is a very physical instrument. He wasnât doing any other exercise or diet, so we know his weight loss was from the extra activity of playing. One of the often-overlooked benefits of playing a musical instrument is how it he
There is no moment in which everything around us isn't beginning. In fact, if the various cosmos – from the greatest to the least – had a slogan it would be this: “In with the new, out with the old.” This celestial principle of regeneration is not only ceaseless in the world around us; it is always at work within us, as well. We are renewed every moment, from the inside out. Now let’s see how this one truth can empower us to let go of any lingering pain of the past, whether from three seconds or thirty years ago.

Being a small business owner or a solopreneur can sometimes mean an endless list of things 'to-do' - either things to market your business, grow your business, manage your business or even just run it. If you're like me, you probably have put yourself and your business to the bottom of your own to-do list more than once. I recently made the decision to put myself right at the top of my list, and that has meant making many changes in the way I do things ... just to keep myself
ou need it. You want it. You miss it. You dream about it. You don’t have it. You may have had it. Where did it go and how can you get it back? It use to be easy. It never worked before. You wonder if you deserve it. You worry about losing it if you actually get it. They have it and you’re wondering what they did that you haven’t done. What’s wrong with you that you don’t have it yet? You’ve helped others get it. You’ve worked harder than they have to get it. It’s stressful to know you don’t have it. You may be working to make sure they appreciate it.

When students master a piece of music that seemed at first impossible, they develop confidence and persistence that can help them in academics and whatever they set out to do. I have seen this again and again teaching violin at the St. Louis School of Music. Students who apply themselves intelligently, efficiently and persistently end up surpassing their own expectations and achieving their goals. Sometimes the lessons donât come easily. I recently surveyed my readers on the ete al question of productivity: Why is it that some things on your to-do list never get done? Some great responses rolled in, ranging from the classic (too many interruptions) to the matter-of-fact (I don’t feel like doing it). But as diverse as the responses were, it didn’t take long to see certain themes emerge. Below are the top ten issues at the heart of the problem and some guidance on how to deal with them. 1. You haven’t made the necessary decisions.
A middle-aged man had recently moved into a new city and, soon after, decided that he wanted to explore his immediate area, maybe meet some of his neighbors, as well as visit some of the interesting shops that lined the streets all around his apartment.
As a seasoned Diversity and Inclusion practitioner for a Fortune 100 company, who has lived & traveled in several countries and continually engages in the marketplace with Diversity related issues, I see good inclusionary practices by many… on the surface. The end results however, indicate that all too often noble objectives fall short of leveraging the inherent contributions of most leaving a quiet brooding behind, or sub par productivity gains. Government and Business entities both espouse Diversity and Inclusion policies to foster goodwill and equal representation.
What do you want? No seriously what do you want? What are you asking for? What are you expecting? What are you hoping for? Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to accept all the abundance that comes your way in the next 48 hours. You will face many moments in your life when your own doubts and fears can begin to overwhelm you. Regardless of how upbeat, how positive, how hopeful you are, everyone faces those nagging feelings inside that something is going or will go wrong.
November 2011 has been an interesting month. A month of near unremitting bad news, which featured the near collapse of the Euro (which will eventually happen), and 1 million 16-24 year olds out of work in the UK. Against this backdrop, we have the City of London encouraging the Government to cut higher rates of income tax to encourage "entrepreneurial activity". The BBC has got in on the act with a new series about money, which began by looking at the rise of wealth coaching.
This month’s newsletter is a guide to developing a longer term plan for your life. Each year, many of us make resolutions that don’t seem to stick. This is because they are short sighted and are not grounded in a longer term plan and direction for your life. My goal in this guide is to get you thinking and planning based on what you want out of your life in the future and setting goals and strategies now to get there. In my thirteen years of working with organizations in strategic planning I used a process based on five key questions.
Often when someone feels wronged by their partner they demand “payment” for the pain they feel unjustly inflicted upon them. History proves they will argue until this well-established pattern completes itself, one way or another. At some point, unable to resolve who’s to blame for the pain, one or the other will either storm off to brood over the mistreatment, or decide that “retreat” is the better part of valor and make some kind of peace offering, perhaps an apology. Sad, but true to say, in the long run, neither of these “solutions” makes any real difference.

Use less paper. About 80 percent of papers that are filed are never referenced again. What a waste! A good solution? File less. An even better solution? Produce less paper to begin with.

The pace of change at work is inexorably rising, with the demands of globalisation and use of technology. However, it's crucial to your workplace survival that you spot those changes that are likely to affect you. Staying awake in the workplace is important if you are to spot when something is afoot. You may not know exactly what's coming, but at least you'll realise that something is. Then you can prepare yourself for it , instead of facing immediate change that you then have to work with.
There is much written about the importance of being positive. The idea that if you view life through an optimistic lens, not only are things more likely to turn out well, but you will feel better anyway. The 'glass half full' mentality does serve people well. In contrast, it is equally clear that viewing life through a negative lens can cause depression, and can certainly reinforce one. The ideas behind cognitive behavioural therapy are that changing the way you think can improve your life significantly.
We all have moments in life when we are just not feeling the love. In every kind of love, there are times when things go wrong and people disappoint you. It happens to the best of us. I want you to know that when you feel this way that everything is fine. There is nothing wrong with you. You may be feeling this way right now. This is just a moment. You will move on when you choose to do so. May I offer you a few practical things you can do right here to begin feeling more love and proving to your skeptical self that love is all around you? Yes, love is all around you even in this moment.
I’m just wondering. You keep saying it but are you serious? You say you want to be happier. You say you want to lose weight. You say you want to stop letting people walk over you. You keep claiming that you’re going to start living your dream. You keep swearing over and over that you are going to change. You’ve cried about not ending up in this same place again. You’ve even started creating pretty little memes about all the wonderful empowering things you say and sharing them with your networks. But are you serious?
There are certain guidelines one can follow. Many brides-to-be will have to decide what is in it that they want when buying a ring engagement. You will need to consider the cost, which is the foremost rule and a basic one to follow. rnAvoid the notion that big and quantity is all you have to it but paying more than what you can afford is certainly something you need to consider and be on-guard. It could set you into a trap that later might leads to financial difficulties whic

Hopefully by now we all get it: this economy is challenging, things are changing, and everyone is looking for ways to do more with less. Unfortunately, as many companies struggle to adjust to this new reality, opportunities are being missed. Often we are so focused on stretching an organization’s financial and other resources that we become less effective in managing our human resources. Why do you think that is? A lot of the time, it’s just a matter of focusing on the tangible rather than the intangible.

What is success? The first answers that come to mind are money and financial independence, power, recognition, and a feeling of pride in our accomplishments. These are the desires that drive us to material success and often dominate our life. And they are also society’s measurement of success, which is why many people enjoy being in the public eye. But success is more than that. There are as many definitions of success as there are people on this planet. We all have our passion. If you are an athlete, your goal is to perform better than your competition.

Power is the ability to create explosive results from the potential that lies within people and things. Think about the power within a stick of dynamite or maybe an automobile. When you press the pedal, the power that lies within the vehicle is ignited. Similarly, the power within a rocket ship is ignited by the fuel tanks. Now, let me share with you the power that lies within the word accountability. Everybody. Who? Everybody. Once again, let me clarify just in case you did

Over the years, I have observed the following key expressions of self-discipline: * People with self-discipline are in charge of their moods. They live by the commitments they have made, not by their emotions. A person without self-control is going to lead a very upsetting and negative life. * People who have self-discipline will pay attention to their language and be careful of what they say. We face an epidemic of personal identity crises in the western world. I outlined the five modern challenges to personal identity in a previous article. When a person wants to reach the next level in their life, when they want to understand the truths -- the principles that actually produce in them a new kind of freedom -- they have to know where to look for it. Truthful principles can only act as agents of change for us when we choose to enact them. Their capacity to restore self-command, grant us a mind at peace, or deliver us from fearful dark states is only as great as our willingness to call upon their powers. That’s why we must do the personal work it takes to put higher principles into practice. Napoleon Hill, one of the early great pioneers of personal development, asserts: “We can become complete masters of ourselves, if we so desire.
By the fact that everything about her existence is perfectly ordered, Mother Nature is “choice-less.” What does being “without choice” mean in this context? All creatures – from the smallest to the largest – from gnat, to gorilla, all the way to the humpback whale, must serve nature as she demands. Their individual lives exist to serve and to sustain a living planetary matrix greater than themselves.
In September 2011, reports of cheating on college standardized exams leaked. This resulted to the public questioning the credibility of testing agencies, and the college admission process. The case that ignited the issue Twenty high school students from Long Island New York were charged after getting involved in a cheating scandal. Five students took the test for fifteen students, in exchange of amounts that are as high as $3,600. Some of those who have taken the test are fro
It's a familiar analogy, but quite accurate, to talk about our relationship with the sacred in the same way we describe a beautiful gemstone. There are many facets to a gem, and depending upon the angle from which we view it, we see light reflected and refracted differently. Several people looking from different angles may report seeing something different, and yet they are all describing the same gem. In the same way, there are many facets to the sacred, and we all see it differently depending upon the “angle” of our culture and experience. And yet there is but one sacred.
You know youâre not trying very hard unless you experience the bad times during your journey. The bad times are there to help you grow and make you better than you currently are. They are what you learn from the most and what will adjust your beliefs and behaviors. Thatâs why I donât believe, when a guy is saying women never reject them, or when they have never failed in anything. Thatâs a load of horseshit. Anyone who is successful in anything has faced the bad times
Have you ever just stopped in the middle of a busy place and study what is going on around you? I recently viewed a film of an event that occurred in Time Square, orchestrated by a group of 20 or so “performers”. In the midst of a frenzied crowd, these individuals, on cue, simply stopped - ...
There is nothing wrong with being a successful human being. In fact, the purpose of your life is to win. But what if, in your quest for this victory, you were accidentally drawn into a compelling game in which, unknown to you, it was impossible to win no matter how well you performed or religiously followed the “rules?” Where, instead of finding the freedom to run as you wish, you found yourself moving more and more mechanically through your days? And, to make matters worse, each passing day leaves you feeling more frustrated than fulfilled because of an ever-increasing pressure to win!
Today, I want you to work on being exactly who you are. I know you have a ton of things to accomplish today, yet this is the most important thing that you can do for you and for the people you are around. There is no greater way to serve a purpose than to be exactly who you were made to be. Let me share this quick story with you to explain why.

Six Ways to Know a False Inner Guide From the True One From The Secret of Your Immortal Self By Guy Finley The journey to the divinity within has its dangers. About this we are clear: the inner path is lined with many trials and pitfalls. But there is nothing to be feared in this knowledge; in truth, these encounters are actually stages of initiation; they are necessary points along the upper path where the aspirant reaches – again and again – the proverbial "fork in the road."
Business as Usual… or Breaking Point? By Karel Murray I had no idea how long two straight weeks on the road really was. It seemed like a great idea when I booked the five engagements in four different states. The travel itinerary flowed logically and I certainly did not want to disappoint my new and repeat clients. So… I lifted my pen, made my travel plans and grinned like a fool. I felt efficient and effective. The reality of extensive travel slapped me in the face when my first flight had a delay of 3 hours. It only went downhill from there.
Have you ever noticed that when you donât deal with whatâs right in front of you, because you donât know how, it doesnât go away but instead gets in your way? It grows bigger. And thatâs what this dead mouse story is about. The other day I stepped outside the door and there it was, a dead mouseâit was actually a half-eaten, decapitated dead mouseâat the bottom of the stairs. It must have been a gift from one of our cats. Since Syb, my husband, who deals with all
What is your relationship with money? Have you asked yourself that question yet? If you are starting a new business and are a stay-at-home mom, this might be one of the most important questions you can ask. After all, setting the right price on your products and services is an integral part of your future business success. Many women don’t feel they can charge the appropriate price on their merchandise. They fear that they aren’t worth what the appropriate price for these pr
Those among you who watch Star Trek, of the Patrick Stewart hue, will be familiar with that brilliant catch-phrase of the human-machine race of conquerors, the Borg. They went into battle with the phrase "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated" - and if it hadn't been for Patrick Stewart, they would undoubtedly have won!
Hi. Yes, I know what you’re thinking. You are wondering how some person who doesn’t know you can tell you with certainty that your life is great. The thought running through your mind is probably: “How can you say that about me?” “You don’t know my life” “You don’t know what I’m going through” “You don’t know what I’ve been through” “You don’t understand how difficult this is” “I wouldn’t wish this situation on anyone else” “Things might be wonderful for other people but my life is NOT really great”
Sometimes, what you did in the past explodes back into your present. It’s a lot like when politicians run for office and the media uncovers an event that either exalts or destroys the individual. Have you ever told a story to your friends or family so many times that pretty soon, you wonder if you have the details right? Or whether the event really happened the way you remember? January 1, 1988, I started a new career in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Social networking… on-line. What a concept. I know that people have met others through dating services provided via the internet, but to reveal the personal nature of oneself to cyberspace is something of a new concept to me. I was asked to link to a friend of mine about two months ago. I couldn’t figure out why we needed to “link” when we had the phone and email. Okay, I’m of the baby boomer generation…but I’m willing to explore places where no man has gone before, like Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise.
So many people today are bitter, broken-hearted, or just plain angry because of what happened to them while growing up.
Arrrrrgh! Stupid Mondays! You hate Mondays. Seriously, like why is it Monday AGAIN? Didn’t you just suffer through a Monday last week? I mean come on! Someone make it stop already. Did you notice how everything terrible happens on Monday? The sun is shining and you’re trying to be happy but Monday just won’t let you cook. And if one more things goes wrong… Sigh. You my friend have a bad case of the Mondays. It’s okay. It happens to the best of us from time to time.
Humans are great at tolerating! We put up with, accept, take on and are dragged down by people’s (other’s and our own!) behavior, situations, unmet needs, crossed boundaries, incompletions, frustrations and problems. You are likely tolerating more than you think. Tell me what you are tolerating? Please take some time to write down all the things you sense that you are tolerating. As you think of more items, add them to your list. Don’t be surprised if, once you get started,
Have you ever been so upset, so disturbed by someone, that if you didn’t lash out at them, you were sure the whole world would come crashing down on you? When you and I get upset with someone, our attention is instantly glued onto the source of our irritation. All we do is think about the irritation we have and how it’s connected to what someone else has done.
Have you ever noticed that whenever a secret is circulating among your close friends you will do almost anything to learn its undisclosed nature? Or, if you think someone knows something that you don’t, you won’t rest until you too are "in the know"? All of this is to say we seem to love secrets!
True spiritual “power” isn’t the ability to imagine and implement an endless series of new solutions to old problems. Rather, it is a radical new and higher form of self-understanding, one that illuminates and transcends our unconscious need to have any painful problems at all. Which would you rather have: a personal fire truck and a fire to put out every day, or a life free of painful fires?
Yes, you. I’m writing this specifically for you to read. Someone needs to tell you, and I care enough about you to do it. Listen, you are a very lovely person. No seriously. You have a good heart and are accomplishing wonderful things. The people around you admire your strength and dedication in what you do.
Every now and again you run into someone that does not have anything positive to say. That Negative Nancy insists on sharing horrible tales of injustice and songs of woe. Hearing them whine and complain about the sunrise or the effervescent giggles of a small child, you begin to wonder when they swore and oath to be contradictory curmudgeon. Then, every now and again you look in the mirror and see that Negative Nancy starting right back at you. How many times have you heard yourself complaining and wished you knew how to back away from that place of doom and gloom?

1. Think about What ‘Quality’ Means for You
If there could be only one idea—a lamp whose light could show the aspirant of real life the way out of the prison of dark thoughts and punishing feelings—it would surely be this: Your true Self doesn’t win in life by overpowering problems, but by revealing they never really existed as you once believed they did.
I recently read a staggering statistic. More than 40% of college graduates never read another book after they graduate â EVER â FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES! If you are not among that 40%, congratulations; you are among the living. If you are among that 40%, how are you growing? How are you developing new perspectives? How are you challenging your preconceptions? Who are you becoming? Personal development philosopher Jim Rohn said, "success is not something you search for

Seated at my kitchen table, I have initiated the “who will blink first” exercise with my black cat, Jette. She is settled at her favorite place by the table leg, one small paw lifted to chest height and her face, emblazoned with a beseeching look, turned up towards me. Her breath is shallow and her green eyed gaze is completely focused on the fork in my hand. Beginning to feel pity for her, I’m actually considering giving her a tidbit. Jette is a master in her own right. The Yoda of negotiation.
Be honest with yourself for just a moment. No one else matters right now. Let’s talk about what you really want. This is not about what you are responsible for. This is not about what they want you to do. Just for this moment, don’t conce yourself about what should be. Sit with the idea that you could have it. Yes, something floated into your thoughts and you have stopped reading this long enough to push that thought away.
Have you ever noticed how the more negative you get, the more difficult everything about your life becomes, including being able to do the simplest things? It’s like suddenly sinking into dark molasses, where not only can’t you move, but everything you don’t want seems stuck to you!
Near the end of a busy afte oon, a senior caddie at an exclusive golf club is making his appointed rounds—double-checking that everything is in its proper place—when he wanders into the clubhouse locker room. Much to his shock he sees an obviously completely exhausted man spread-eagle on the floor! A moment later, he recognizes the man as a fairly new member of the club. At first he fears the man may have fallen and hit his head, but after touching him gently, the man leaps to his feet...a terrified look in his eye.

Life management in modern times requires more than just a productivity app. When I began my journey of self-growth some 20 years ago, the Internet was a simpler place. With all of the real-time notifications and social media of today, I almost need super human powers of concentration to stay focused on being productive. In fact, the concept of productivity is now entirely different to me now than back then. Traditional productivity is about getting important stuff done as efficiently as possible. I believe that no longer meets our standards for modern life.
I've been thinking a lot lately about being spiritual. Years ago, it was a real dilemna for me to understand how one can be successful in a very practical world and maintain one's spiritual integrity at the same time. Then I gradually came to see it - we are all spiritual 24 hours a day ...
Yes, it is true: if you want to succeed in todayâs economy, you need a Ron Paul on your sales team. Regardless of our certainty as to whether we or our partner starts or rekindles a quarrel, the real cause of the continuing conflict between us lies elsewhere. Which is why, as strange as the following insight may seem at first, the importance of working to see the truth of it simply can’t be overstated: Despite any appearance to the contrary, it’s not our partner, nor is it we who strikes the first blow in any dispute: it’s pain that picks the fight.
For people going through a divorce, their lives may perhaps seem busier than ever before together with the excess difficulty that divorce brings. Counseling for divorce is one thing that can be incredibly advantageous for those moving through this sort of a hard change but for a great number, the thought of adding another thing to their mounting to do checklist appears unbearable. Technological innovation is triggering advancements in every single area, which includes counsel
Something I saw and then heard myself telling someone the other day that touched me: “I know it’s really attractive to think that [name] is coming to help you or save you from this situation. We all want to be cared for so I get that. I need you to hear and really understand that there is NO cavalry coming to save you. YOU are the one God sent to save you. You are the one that will decide how long you are in this situation.

I can’t afford it. I’m too busy. I don’t really need it. I’ll do it later. I don’t deserve it. I’m in a good place right now. What lame excuse is your inner critic using to keep you where you are? Our relationships with one another are often a source of distress. In general, the principal form of conflict we experience with others has to do with some form of consideration that we feel they are not giving to us. We often suffer from thoughts like these: "She is not being respectful enough." "He is not as kind as I want him to be." "They just don't care as deeply as I do."

For good reasons or for reasons you cannot even explain, you are not in a good place right now. You might be spinning in circles in totally sensory overload; feeling completely overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done. Fantastic! You might be really afraid of what is about to happen or what is being asked of you. Marvelous! Do you hear yourself ranting about something ridiculous, or everything, or nothing at all? As you listen to yourself, are you wondering who this insane person is and why are they so mad about such silly little things? Congratulations!

Love often appears at our door as a beggar in disguise. There are countless ancient myths that tell how the gods would show up at the door of someone’s home, appearing to be in dire straits. On the surface of things, they seem to be seeking food and shelter; but, in truth, they’ve come to ask if the ones they have chosen to visit will make room for them in their lives.
This was a tough weekend. If you’re not emotionally drained, chances are you know someone who is. Our hearts and thoughts are with the families and communities experiencing the most unthinkable loss and grief. When a tragedy occurs, your heart can ache searching for a way to return to a sense of normalcy and peace. You may even be wondering if you have any right to want peace when mothers and fathers are only beginning to deal with so much pain.

Yes, selfish. Did I startle you? I hope that doesn’t seem like a shocking concept. It almost sounds like I’m totally advocating for you to help yourself as much if not more than you help others. Well, I am. Now before you go rejecting the very thought and getting upset that I told you to be selfish, let me tell you why I’m telling you to be selfish. I know it’s uncomfortable to think about. I’ll give you a minute to finish reacting to that word before I give you 3 reasons to selfishly help yourself the way you help others. Just breathe and hear me out.

When expectations get dashed, we don't see new possibilities unfolding; all we see is the way things should have gone. We don't see what is with all of its positive possibilities; instead we see only the negative . . . what is not. We feel powerless because we've become the captive of a mind resisting itself, an involuntary prisoner of a mind struggling to escape its own negative images. There is nothing but powerlessness in this resistance because by law whatever we resist . . . persists!
It's just after 3am right now and I'm on a Northeast train headed to a business meeting in another city. I'm really not a morning person and I'm very sleepy. Make no mistake - this is not the way I normally chose to spend my early mornings. When I get off the train, I'm headed straight to my meeting which will last the entire day. I'm making all of this effort because this meeting is a thing that matters to me a great deal. We find ways to do the things that really matter to us. No. matter. what.
Before we all go off to celebrate another ending and new beginning, may I encourage you to remember why you are right where you are, and celebrate all those things you did accomplish in 2012.
BEING THE OYSTER: An Alternative to the Blame GamennIt's easy to label someone a "troublemaker" or a "problem." For one thing, it gets us off the hook. We're not to blame; the other guy is. For another, it fuels the idea that the power to change our lives lies outside of us. If the circumstances in which we live were different, then we would be different; presumably, happier. So we blame others for our own unhappiness and try, with subtle and not-so subtle means, to change th
Okay but what if you could learn to live the life that you really wanted? Yes, and maybe there’s another explanation for what happened. What a difference from the bellicose rants and saber rattling of Dick Cheney and George Bush. Obama went on to say that we in the United States do not consider Muslims our

Find Your Fearless Inner Guide The journey to the divinity within has its dangers. About this we are clear: the inner path is lined with many trials and pitfalls. But there is nothing to be feared in this realization. In truth, these encounters are actually stages of initiation; they are necessary points along the upper path where the aspirant reaches – again and again – the proverbial "fork in the road." Sam was dragging several folding tables out of his garage, and arranging them on the front lawn.

We also choose what type of person we want to be and what life we want to live. The problem is that these big ove

As events occur, we always assume that we know what they mean for us, and we immediately fall into what feels like the appropriate emotional reaction. That reaction further influences the way we view the following events, and in this way our initial response is “confirmed.” We rarely question either our view of events or our response to them. In fact, if someone were to tell us that things were not as we took them to be, we would probably take that person as an enemy who cared nothing for us and who was, himself, a part of the threatening situation.
We value negative states because of the strong sense of self we get from them. This may be very difficult for us to see, but a strong light will show us the freeing facts. No one wants to believe that he or she values things like self-pity, anger, and depression. We would insist we don't, and as evidence we point to the fact that we fight against them, but the struggle gives us a false sense of life and importance. It focuses attention on us and makes us feel like the center of a great deal of activity.
Sometimes I hear someone discussing a meal that they have recently enjoyed. As the greater part of the population of this country are carnivores, the chances are that the meal will usually be centred on a meat dish. I always find myself wondering how they can enjoy eating animals. If you were to ask some of these people you would probably find that they claim to be animal lovers. Perhaps they would have a dog or a cat at home as a pet. If you were to push it a little further,
Victory over our own lower nature is now or never. We can't end conflict later. We can't stop being sad, cruel, angry, scared, or anxious later. Thinking, or hoping, that any destination we have in mind is going to be superior to where we're presently standing is exactly why we're still standing in that same place where we have to hope that some tomorrow will be better. Later does not exist in reality.
